Job description

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading heavy manufacturing organisation that specialises in large-scale fabricated components and complex engineering solutions. As part of their continued growth and commitment to world-class operational standards, they are seeking an experienced QHSE Manager to take ownership of Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental functions across the site.

This role is ideal for a hands‑on, influential QHSE professional with a solid background in welding environments, strong working knowledge of ISO 9001, and the ability to drive cultural improvements in a fast‑paced, safety‑critical manufacturing setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the Quality Management System in line with ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Conduct internal audits, supplier audits, and oversee external accreditation audits.
  • Implement robust quality assurance and quality control processes, specifically within welded, fabricated, and machined products.
  • Review technical specifications, WPS/PQRs, and ensure weld quality meets required codes and standards.
  • Manage non‑conformance reporting (NCRs), root cause analysis, and continuous improvement actions.
  • Own the site's Health & Safety strategy, ensuring full compliance with HSE legislation.
  • Conduct risk assessments, safety inspections, and lead incident investigations.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, safety training, and drive proactive behavioural safety initiatives.
  • Ensure safe working practices in welding bays, fabrication areas, heavy equipment zones, and high‑risk manufacturing operations.
  • Support ISO 14001 initiatives (advantageous if previously involved).
  • Promote sustainability and environmental awareness onsite.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a QHSE Manager, Quality Manager, or Senior QHSE Engineer within heavy manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial engineering.
  • Essential: strong welding background – ideally time‑served or with significant technical exposure to welding processes, standards, and inspection.
  • Demonstrated track record working with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience managing QHSE within fast‑paced production environments involving heavy machinery, cranes, fabrication, and high‑risk processes.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessments, incident investigations, and root‑cause methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Ishikawa, 8D).
  • Confident communicator able to influence at all levels, from shop‑floor to senior leadership.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
  • Relevant engineering or manufacturing qualification (Welding, Mechanical, Fabrication).
  • Lead Auditor qualification (ISO 9001 / ISO 14001) beneficial.
  • Welding inspection training (CSWIP, PCN, etc.) advantageous.
