QA Manager, Pharmaceutical

Location: Watford, Hertfordshire | Type: Permanent | Salary: £58,000‑£65,000

Russell Taylor Group is working with an established pharmaceutical manufacturing company looking to recruit an experienced QA Manager who will play a key role in furthering the development of the QA team, QMS, department growth and recruitment planning. Responsibilities
  • Directly manage a team of quality professionals, conducting regular (1‑1) meetings, performance reviews and career development planning for all direct reports.
  • Recruit and onboard new staff members.
  • Set objectives for the team and provide regular feedback (including coaching).
  • Develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive QMS suitable for both pharmaceutical and food/ingredient products.
  • Champion improvements through risk management & route‑cause analysis.
  • Oversee the functioning of the QMS and provide oversight to key stakeholders, including senior staff.
  • Accountable across change control, stability, documentation control, internal audits, GMP, supplier approval, complaints, PQRs, NPI, route‑cause analysis and controlled drug returns.
  • Ensure compliance with correct documentation practices, including batch records, laboratory tests and quality agreements.
  • Oversee supplier verification & vendor‑auditing programs.
  • Manage the batch review process and maintain the batch release process.
  • Keep abreast of evolving UK & EU retained regulations for pharmaceutical and/or food/ingredient manufacturing.
  • Ensure compliance with EU GMP standards & BRC food safety requirements.
  • Prepare and lead the MHRA inspection and customer (third‑party audit) process.
  • Ensure quality goals and agreed time‑frames are met, providing metrics for the QA H.O.Q.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day operational functions of the quality team, ensuring flow of products through the product life‑cycle and batch review processes.
  • Develop training programmes for the quality staff.
  • Act as the external communication point with regulatory bodies.
  • Deputise for the H.O.Q. when required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in a STEM‑related subject.
  • Experience managing QA teams in a GMP/Pharmaceutical setting.
  • Management experience essential; team leader or similar roles considered.
  • Experience in batch review and batch release.
  • Experience in auditing and audit hosting.
  • Experience with CAPA, deviations, change controls, internal auditing (preferred).
