Job description

We’re hiring a QA Engineer to strengthen product reliability and automated test coverage across Diesta’s platform. You’ll work side by side with our Lead QA Engineer and report to our Head of Engineering.

This is not a manual-testing-only role. You will help us understand, protect and evolve the core user journeys, business rules and system variants that make up our product. You’ll use that knowledge to build trusted, maintainable automated coverage, while applying exploratory testing where human judgement adds the most value.

You will work across our Angular Portal and backend services, using Playwright, Cucumber and TypeScript to test UI, API and end-to-end workflows. You’ll be comfortable navigating codebases, understanding the impact of change, and contributing test code - and occasionally product code - where it improves testability and reliability.

We are moving from an AI-driven SDLC towards a more agentic one. We want someone excited to use AI thoughtfully to improve quality, automate repeatable work, and help build a quality function that scales with product growth rather than with headcount alone.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and evolve test strategies for our Portal and backend applications.
  • Build and maintain automated test suites using Playwright, Cucumber and TypeScript, covering UI, API, integration and end-to-end scenarios.
  • Learn and maintain a clear understanding of the platform’s core workflows, business rules, variants and dependencies.
  • Identify high-value regression scenarios and ensure they remain protected as the product evolves.
  • Navigate Angular, TypeScript, NestJS and Python codebases to understand change impact, identify risk and write meaningful tests.
  • Contribute test code and, where appropriate, small product or tooling changes that improve testability, reliability or observability.
  • Perform focused exploratory testing on new features, complex workflows and edge cases; turn stable, high-value findings into automated coverage.
  • Work with developers and Product to define clear, testable requirements before work is completed.
  • Work with DevOps to keep test coverage integrated into the delivery process and reduce flaky or low-signal checks.
  • Turn production incidents and defects into stronger coverage and preventative quality improvements.
  • Use AI tools and agentic workflows to improve test design, test authoring, test maintenance, defect triage and documentation.
  • Identify repetitive QA activity that should be automated, improved or removed, and help make that happen.
  • With our Lead QA Engineer: Help shape and extend our approach to quality, test coverage and automation. Map the product’s critical flows, variants and regression risks, and turn them into durable protection.
  • With Developers: Drive quality early in the development process. Read and understand code changes, identify risk, support test-driven development, contribute test code and review coverage in pull requests.
  • With Product: Help define testable acceptance criteria, expose ambiguity before it becomes a defect, and make sure important workflows and edge cases are understood.
  • With DevOps: Coordinate on test execution in CI/CD, test environments, test data and flaky-test monitoring. Help ensure automated checks provide fast, reliable feedback before release.
What We're Looking For
  • 3+ years’ experience in QA, Test Engineering, SDET, or a similar software quality role.
  • Strong experience in automated web testing, ideally with Playwright and TypeScript.
  • Experience with Cucumber or another BDD framework.
  • Confidence reading, navigating and contributing to application code; this is not a role limited to executing manual test scripts.
  • Experience testing modern web applications, REST APIs and backend workflows.
  • Ability to reason through complex business workflows, state changes, edge cases and failure modes.
  • A track record of building or improving automated regression coverage for important product journeys.
  • Familiarity with Git, pull requests and CI/CD-based development practices.
  • Good judgement about when to automate and when exploratory testing is the better tool.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to explain quality risk, defects and trade-offs concisely.
  • Curiosity about AI-assisted and agentic ways of working, and a practical interest in automating repetitive parts of the QA role.
Bonus if you’ve worked with
  • Angular, NestJS, Python or TypeScript-based backend services.
  • API, contract, database or event-driven-system testing.
  • SQL and data-heavy workflow validation.
  • Insurance, insurtech, fintech or other complex regulated-domain workflows.
  • Performance, accessibility or security testing.
  • AI coding assistants, agentic workflows, custom prompts, skills or tooling that improve QA delivery.

Help protect high-trust software in a complex, meaningful domain.

Build real automated coverage, contribute to code, and influence how we design, test and release software.

Work closely with an experienced Lead QA Engineer, developers, Product, DevOps and engineering leadership - not in a silo.

Help us make practical progress towards an AI-driven and increasingly agentic SDLC.

Build quality systems that make the team faster, more confident and more scalable as Diesta grows.
