Job summary

Salt Digital Recruitment is seeking a Python Developer in Cambridge/London to design backend services and prototypes for security-focused product features. Hybrid work (1–2 days/week) with immediate start, salary £55k–£75k, and close collaboration with ML researchers and SREs.

You’ll deliver clean, testable Python code, participate in live problem-solving rounds, and contribute to CI/CD and cloud deployment patterns in a fast-paced team.”

Qualifications

• 3+ years of Python production experience.
• Ability to break down ambiguous problems and explain reasoning clearly.
• Experience in small, fast-moving teams where engineers wear multiple hats.
• Familiarity with containers (Docker) and cloud concepts.
• Strong communication skills and ability to think out loud during live problem-solving.
• Experience with Kubernetes or container orchestration.
• Exposure to ML/AI projects, data pipelines, or research-driven engineering.
• Experience with observability tooling, CI/CD, and testing best practices.
• Degree in Computer Science or related field (or demonstrable equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and maintain backend services and prototypes in Python.
• Work from research outputs to production-ready components with ML/AI researchers and SREs.
• Participate in live coding and code reviews.
• Collaborate with product managers and researchers to turn ideas into demos and features.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimise systems (performance, reliability, observability).
• Contribute to CI/CD, Docker workflows, and cloud deployment patterns.
• Communicate trade-offs and design decisions clearly; adapt to changing requirements.
