Job summary

Applause IT Recruitment is assisting a UK technology business in Nottingham to hire a Software Engineer focused on Python. You will join an engineering team where software, research and infrastructure converge to tackle technically challenging problems with real-world impact.

The role spans the full development lifecycle, from design to testing and delivery, emphasizing clean, maintainable code, automation, APIs, and DevOps practices within Linux environments.

Qualifications

• Commercial software development experience with strong Python knowledge.
• Solid core Python fundamentals beyond framework-specific development.
• Experience designing and developing maintainable, testable software.
• An understanding of object-oriented design and common software design principles.
• Experience with automated testing / Test-Driven Development
• Exposure to APIs and integration-based development
• Familiarity with Linux environments
• Understanding of Git and modern development workflows
• Exposure to CI/CD, automated pipelines or Infrastructure as Code
• A genuine interest in solving technical problems and continuing to broaden your engineering skill set
• Experience with cloud technologies, DevOps tooling, or infrastructure automation is a plus

Responsibilities

• Designing, developing and maintaining software primarily using Python
• Working across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements and design through to testing and delivery
• Building robust, maintainable and well-tested software using modern engineering practices
• Developing automation and tooling to support software deployment and infrastructure
• Working with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code
• Developing and integrating APIs and working with files, data and external systems
• Working within Linux-based environments
• Collaborating with experienced Software Engineers on new and existing projects
• Contributing to technical design discussions and solving complex engineering problems
• Gaining exposure to research-led and technically varied project work
