Overview

Purchasing / Procurement Manager. Hybrid - 2 days working from home, remainder in office | Full-time. North Somerset. Circa £50,000 per annum. Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for procurement and team leadership?

About the Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager (with a dotted line to Finance), you will:

  • Ensure customer order requirements are met for manufactured and factored products.
  • Deliver capacity planning to keep production running at optimal levels.
  • Collaborate across departments to align purchasing with operational needs.
  • Lead, coach, and motivate a team, setting priorities and ensuring performance targets are achieved.

This is a hands-on strategic role, giving you the chance to shape procurement processes, optimise supplier relationships, and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Procurement & Supplier Management
    • Develop and execute sourcing strategies for raw materials, parts, and equipment.
    • Identify, qualify, and negotiate with suppliers to ensure quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Monitor supplier performance and resolve delivery, quality, or compliance issues.
    • Maintain accurate records of purchases, inventory, and supplier evaluations.
    • Analyse market trends to anticipate supply risks and cost fluctuations.
  • Communication & Collaboration
    • Maintain clear, consistent communication with internal teams and external partners.
    • Clarify order queries and advise of any significant changes to plans.
    • Provide reporting on performance metrics, including supplier KPIs and stock levels.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Allocate and prioritise tasks, motivate, and support your team.
    • Manage performance, recognising talent and addressing underperformance.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration across departments.
  • Compliance & Standards
    • Ensure adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards (ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001).
Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a procurement manager, ideally in manufacturing or industrial sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement, supply chain management, and vendor negotiation.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing materials (e.g., metals, plastics, electronics) and production timelines.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and procurement software.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • CIPS or APICS certification (or equivalent) is a plus.
