A rare opportunity to join a global engineering manufacturer in a senior procurement role. As Purchasing Manager, you'll lead supplier strategy, cost control, and team development across a £10M+ spend portfolio. You'll oversee global sourcing, supplier performance, contract negotiation, and MRP processes, while supporting growth, quality, and delivery targets across two sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a £10M+ supplier spend across critical engineering commodities
- Lead negotiation of supplier agreements with focus on quality, delivery, and cost
- Develop a global supply base with dual sourcing and contingency planning
- Audit and approve suppliers based on financial, technical, and quality criteria
- Support supplier selection through tendering, benchmarking, and market analysis
- Implement supplier scorecards and lead performance reviews
- Drive cost-down initiatives through negotiation and value engineering
- Coordinate sourcing and project support for New Product Introductions (NPIs)
- Monitor material flow and purchasing parameters through MRP systems
- Lead supplier recovery plans and improvement projectsPromote lean and ethical purchasing across the business
- Collaborate with engineering and production to align procurement and build plans
- Maintain structured communication with group procurement and other sites
- Identify and mitigate risks across the supply chain
- Develop and embed formal processes and continuous improvement in the team
- Support logistics planning and delivery schedule optimisation
Experience & Skills
- 5+ years in senior procurement or supply chain within manufacturing/engineering
- Background in sourcing steel, fabrications, and machined components
- Experience managing supplier audits, contracts, and cost-reduction programmes
- Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
- Strong technical understanding and commercial negotiation skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and procurement planning tools
- Experience in lean environments and single-piece flow desirable
