Purchasing Assistant Job in Christchurch

Our client is a well-established and successful manufacturing business who export globally.

They are looking for a capable Purchasing Assistant to support their purchasing function in meeting the company's day-to-day requirements. This will involve helping to source materials, obtaining quotations from preferred suppliers, raising purchase orders, expediting timely deliveries, as well as assisting with supplier management. Also, carrying out some general administration duties. This Purchasing Assistant role would suit a candidate with experience of working in a purchasing environment as well as manufacturing knowledge. The role will require the ability to work accurately in a busy environment, as well as having good communication skills to create strong relationships with both internal colleagues and external suppliers.

Salary and Benefits:
  • A salary of £DOE per annum
  • Working Monday to Friday 8.15 am - 5.00 pm

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Complying with all relevant Company Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures
  • Assisting the Buyer to research suppliers and obtain quotations.
  • Preparing and processing purchase orders
  • Reviewing and processing purchase order acknowledgements
  • Expediting purchase orders to achieve complete and on timely delivery
  • Purchase order administration, including updating product prices and computer records
  • Carrying out supplier assessments for new suppliers, including credit check; accreditations; compliance; H&S policy
  • Coordinating reviews for existing suppliers, including taking notes at meetings and keeping records
  • Dealing with Non-conformity Reports (NCRs)
  • Completing applications for product warranties
  • Carrying out some other general administration, as required
Minimum Skills and Experience Required:
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent communicator
  • Strong organisation skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent and beneficial long-term relationships
  • Previous experience of working with an ERP / MRP system would be an advantage
