The post involves supporting pupils with additional support needs to access education and meet their care and wellbeing needs. You will work collaboratively as part of a team and support in day-to-day school operations under the leadership team, including handling challenging behaviour

Salary: £26,806 - £27,032 (pro rata for part-time and sessional) Hours: 16 per week, 39 weeks sessional

Working pattern: Monday to Friday 9:30am to 1:30pm (with no breaks)

Leith Walk Primary is seeking two kind, empathetic and resilient Pupil Support Assistants to join our talented Pupil Support Team.

The successful candidates will work collaboratively as a member of a team. They will support pupils with additional support needs to access education and have their care and wellbeing needs met. They will be flexible and provide support and assistance in the day-to-day operation of the school, as directed by the school leadership team. The support needs of children or young people may include social, emotional and behavioural needs requiring provision of support for dysregulated behaviour.

Leith Walk Primary School is one of the oldest primary schools in Edinburgh, dating back to 1876. The school enjoys extensive links with the cluster schools and the local, wider community. The Senior Leadership Team includes a Head Teacher, a Deputy Head Teacher, Principal Teacher and Business Manager. We enjoy a successful partnership with our Parent Council which is open to all parents. The corridors and the classrooms offer a bright, attractive environment for our pupils. The building is subject to continuous on-going improvement of facilities.

In addition to a full complement of classrooms, the school is well provided with rooms for other specialist purposes. There are currently separate rooms for music, drama, support services such as Support for Learning and English as an Additional Language, a hall which is used for Physical Education and Assemblies, and a library.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
