Job summary

The City of Edinburgh Council is seeking a dedicated Pupil Support Assistant for Balerno High School, to support pupils within the classroom and contribute to attainment and wellbeing during 39 weeks per year. You will work 27.5 hours per week in a term-time role, supporting the school’s learning and inclusive practices.

You will join the Support for Learning team to help maximise attainment, with training provided and a commitment to inclusive education across our diverse school community in

Pupil Support Assistant
BalernoHigh School

Salary: £26,806 - £27,032 (pro rata for part-time and sessional)
Hours: 27.5 per week, 39 weeks sessional

Balerno High School is a six-year comprehensive which serves the districts of Balerno, Ratho and Kirknewton. The school has close liaison with the associated primaries in each of these communities. An active Parent Council supports us.

The roll for session 2026-2027 is 890 pupils in years S1 to S6. Around twenty five percent of our pupils are enrolled as placing requests from out with the catchment. Our school has an excellent academic reputation and a vibrant extra-curricular and enrichment programme.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to support pupils within the classroom.

Pupil Support Assistants are required to join the Support for Learning team assisting and encouraging students with the aim of maximising attainment and support for all pupils.

You will be joining a high achieving and successful department and other teams of staff who are dedicated to providing the best for all young people. You should be committed to further raising the attainment and achievement of all our pupils.

All successful candidates will be given training support to help them carry out their roles.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. Anunconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
