Job summary

Hull City Council is seeking a legal professional to provide comprehensive advice to council departments and external clients, including complex and sensitive cases with high profile relevance.

The role requires drafting and reviewing legal documents, advising on legislation, and representing the Council in courts or inquiries, while supervising junior staff and contributing to in-house training.

Responsibilities

• Develop strategies and plans for implementing new legislation and provide advice to the Council on legal obligations and timelines.
• Prepare, advise on and contribute to reports for committees with a legal dimension to ensure compliance and accuracy of policies and minutes.
• Draft, prepare, review and negotiate standard legal documents and court-related materials.
• Provide oral and written legal advice to officers and external bodies, including urgent matters.
• Prepare legal proceedings and represent the Council in courts, inquiries or tribunals for the best outcomes.
• Supervise and manage work carried out by Legal Officers and Assistant Legal Officers.
• Support Heads of Legal Services and Team Leaders; contribute to internal legal training.
• Assist in developing in-house training to enhance colleagues’ knowledge of legal matters.
