Position Summary

Are you an NMC registered nurse interested in joining the Public Health Nursing Service for children and young people aged 5‑19 years (24 for SEND) as part of Buckinghamshire’s integrated 0‑19 services delivering the Healthy Child Programme? This role involves undertaking child, family, and group interventions in both school and home environments.

The post holder will benefit from a robust competency process, supervision, and extensive training, supporting progression onto the SCPHN (Specialist Community Public Health Nurse – School Nurse) programme through Bucks New University.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide child, family and group interventions for children and young people aged 5‑19 years.
  • Work in school and home settings, delivering the Healthy Child Programme.
  • Participate in competency assessments and receive regular supervision.
  • Support development of new skills in public health nursing and progress to the SCPHN programme.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team across the county, travelling to multiple sites as required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Experience in public health or community nursing is desirable.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with children, families, and schools.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including some face‑to‑face and remote delivery.
Training and Development

All new staff will receive agile working technology and virtual support, with strong face‑to‑face backing from an experienced skill‑mix team. The role offers opportunities for structured development programmes, personalised mentorship, and access to specialist training for long‑term career advancement.

Location & Travel

The role is based in the north of Buckinghamshire with the primary base at Buckingham Hospital. Staff will travel across the county to support the wider team across schools, homes, and community sites.
