NHS Western Isles are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated dentist to join the Public Dental Service team. The successful candidate would be expected to be based in the Uist & Barra Hospital, which alongside all the Uists offers stunning beaches, wildlife, and outdoor adventures right on your doorstep—perfect for those who love nature and tranquillity. Whilst the successful candidate would be based in Uist & Barra Hospital, additional locations can be made available depending on the clinical commitment and skills of the successful applicant. Any clinics which would require the post holder to travel or require accommodation away from their base, expenses would be covered. The role includes providing dental care for priority group patients, particularly children and adult patients who require additional support.
Working within well‑equipped surgeries, you will enjoy access to the newly opened Uist and Barra Hospital Dental Hub as well as the professional support of colleagues. There are great opportunities for professional development through the diversity of the patient base, training support, as well as growth through peer review and the support of the existing experienced and friendly team.
Successful applicants will provide dental care provision not only in the static clinical environment but also in care home and other domiciliary type setting and will therefore require the clinical skills and competency necessary to deliver a range of treatments within a sometimes‑challenging environment to patients who may have additional and complex needs.
Known as Scotland’s Atlantic Islands, the Western Isles are steeped in history and culture, with stunning landscapes, spectacular coastlines, a strong sense of community and identity, and renowned Hebridean hospitality. For those with young families, the Western Isles also offer a safe place to live, a high‑quality education system with low levels of crime.
