Overview

Have you had experience of working with or in the UK Parliament? Can you think creatively, communicate well, and make strong connections? Are you passionate about driving change and committed to helping tackle one of the UK's biggest killers? If so, you may be the Public Affairs Officer we’re looking for! Our Policy and Public Affairs team engages with, informs, and influences key decision‑makers in the UK Government and the health system across England to ensure the UK remains a global leader in cardiovascular research and to improve treatment and care for the millions of people living with cardiovascular diseases.

Responsibilities
  • Engage with Parliamentarians to raise awareness of British Heart Foundation funded research in Westminster and constituencies, and proactively spot opportunities to draw attention to the need for increased cardiovascular research funding.
  • Support the delivery of a programme of activity and engagement that contributes to the wider Hearts Need More campaign, ensuring cardiovascular disease remains a priority from prevention to cure.
  • Produce clear, concise briefs, letters, social media posts and other communication materials for a variety of audiences.
  • Assist with planning and supporting events that promote cardiovascular research.
Qualifications
  • Interest in and good insight into the UK Government, Westminster parliamentary procedure and the political environment.
  • Understanding of British Heart Foundation and other medical research charities, or broader awareness of the UK research environment.
  • Some experience working in the UK Parliament or in a public affairs in‑house team or consultancy; excellent communication skills are essential.
  • Strong organisational skills and experience helping to organise or support events.
  • Ability to distil complex information into simple, clear formats for a range of audiences.
Role Details

This is a blended role where you will work dual‑located between your home and our London office, spending at least one day per week in the office. Local access to the building is important for collaboration and organisational needs.
