Carmichael UK are seeking an experienced Site Engineer to join a Tier 1 contractor working on a major rail framework project between Bristol and Swindon.

This position offers a fantastic opportunity to work in a challenging and rewarding rail environment, contributing to critical infrastructure upgrades across the region. The successful candidate will hold both PTS and IRATA rope access qualifications and have proven experience delivering geotechnical works within a live rail setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Setting out and surveying for rail geotechnical works including drainage, soil nailing, rock bolting, and netting.
  • Preparing Work Package Plans, RAMS, and maintaining accurate daily records.
  • Utilising CAT & Genny for service detection and ensuring safe excavation practices.
  • Liaising with construction teams, supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure smooth delivery of works.
  • Ensuring compliance with all safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Supporting the project team with technical input and problem-solving on site.
About You
  • Proven experience as a Site Engineer in a rail or geotechnical environment.
  • Valid PTS and IRATA rope access certification (essential).
  • Competent with CAT & Genny equipment.
  • Strong understanding of geotechnical construction techniques including soil nailing, rock bolting, and netting.
  • Proficient in setting out, survey control, and record keeping.
  • Experience preparing RAMS and Work Package Plans.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • HNC/Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field preferred.
