Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Psychology Graduate to support pupils in Cardiff secondary schools. You will provide one-to-one and small-group support, helping learners overcome barriers and build confidence while gaining real-world experience in education.

This full-time role offers Monday–Friday hours in school settings, with a daily pay of £120 via PAYE and training provided. Ideal for those pursuing Educational or Clinical Psychology careers and flexible to fit around studies.

Qualifications

  • Enhanced DBS certificate on Update Service (or willingness to obtain)
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (or willingness to register)
  • Two recent professional or academic references
  • Up-to-date CV
  • Safeguarding training (provided if needed)

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one support for pupils with ALN or emotional needs
  • Help pupils with anxiety, low confidence or disengagement to re-engage with learning
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Deliver small-group sessions focused on social, emotional or academic development
  • Build consistent, trusting relationships that help pupils feel safe and motivated
  • Work alongside teachers, ALNCos and pastoral teams to remove barriers to learning
  • Celebrate progress, however small
  • No two days are the same, but you'll see the difference you make.

Location: Secondary schools across Cardiff (CF5 and surrounding areas)

Start date:19th of October, subject to compliance checks

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:15am to 3:15pm (school day)

Pay: £120 per day, paid weekly via PAYE, with no umbrella company deductions

Planning a career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselling, Mental Health or Teaching? Most postgraduate courses and graduate employers expect applicants to have meaningful experience supporting children and young people. This role gives you that experience while you're paid for it.

You'll work in Cardiff secondary schools, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, build confidence and achieve positive outcomes in and out of the classroom. It suits you whether you're on a gap year, studying for a Master's, or still deciding on a pathway.

About you

You're empathetic, resilient and genuinely interested in supporting young people.

  • Studying towards, or recently graduated with, a Psychology degree (or closely related subject)
  • Interested in child development, mental health or education
  • Calm, patient and approachable, with strong communication skills
  • Adaptable and able to respond positively to changing situations
  • Previous experience with children or young people is welcome but not essential. We provide training and ongoing support.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
