Job summary

NHS West Sussex Talking Therapies in Worthing is recruiting Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners to join a busy talking therapies service. The role involves managing a patient caseload and delivering low-intensity interventions by telephone, video, face to face, groups and online.

The successful candidate will require NHS Talking Therapies PWP qualifications, BABCP/BPS registration, and an NHSE LTC course, with in-person duties across Worthing bases and a supportive management structure.

Qualifications

  • NHS Talking Therapies qualification as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP).
  • Registration as a PWP with BABCP or BPS.
  • Completion of NHSE approved Long Term Conditions (LTC) course.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment and evidence-based Low intensity interventions (GSH, computerised CBT) to patients.
  • Maintain a clinical caseload within supervision.
  • Support GPs and primary care staff with referrals.

Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP)

Are you a qualified Psychological Wellbeing Therapist looking for your next career step in one of the country's leading NHS Talking Therapies services?

NHS West Sussex Talking Therapies South Team, based in Worthing, West Sussex has 2 posts available:

1 x full time permanent position

1 full-time position on a fixed term basis until the end of July 2027

Both positions will require at least 2 days per week working from one of our bases in the Worthing area to offer in person appointments to clients.

Join the NHS West Sussex Talking Therapies team and help us continue to build on our success and work with a range of adults with anxiety, depression and trauma-related problems in a primary care setting.

Using your skills, knowledge, enthusiasm and commitment to providing NHS talking therapies you will manage a patient caseload offering high quality, evidence-based low intensity interventions and assessments by telephone, video, face to face, groups and online.

You will be fully supported by our management and clinical leads and surrounded by a friendly, highly competent supportive workforce. We have taken time to create a model and culture in our service which ensures that you are happy in your work.

As one of the country's leading NHS Talking Therapy services, we lead the way in the provision of NICE recommended psychological therapies, are focused on clinical excellence, innovation, and collaborative working.

Main duties of the job

Provide assessment and evidenced based Low intensity interventions egpsycho-educational interventions, Guided Self Help, computerised CBT topatients who access NHS West Sussex Talking Therapies drawing from CBT theories and techniques.

To undertake clinical risk assessment and take the appropriate action.

To work with colleagues to formulate, implement and evaluate therapy programmes for clients.

To maintain a clinical caseload within agreed limits and supervision.

Provide a service that is equitable, non-discriminatory, and accessible to a broad range of patients who have common mental health problems and who are over 18 years of age.

Support GPs and other primary care workers in making appropriate referrals.

We provide services Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm with plenty of opportunities to work flexible hours and staff have laptops and mobiles allowing for office and home working flexibility. West Sussex Talking Therapies works hard to meet the diverse needs of patients and there is an expectation for full time staff members to be available to work at one of our venues at least 2 days a week.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • NHS Talking Therapies qualification as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (unless demonstrably exempt through UCL assessment of competence scheme).
  • Registration as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner with either BABCP or BPS.
  • Successful completion of NHSE approved Long Term Conditions (LTC) course.
Experience
  • Evidence of working with people who have experienced a mental health problem.
  • Experience of working within set criteria and referring to other services as appropriate.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Able to carry out a risk assessment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with high volumes of patients who may be distressed.
  • Have knowledge of and be committed to the concept of recovery and mental resilience.
