Job summary

Financial Conduct Authority in the UK seeks a Prudential Policy Associate to help develop and implement prudential regimes across FCA-regulated firms. You will contribute to policy design, analysis, and interpretation of prudential standards, supporting risk assessments and engagement with stakeholders.

The role emphasizes analysis, collaboration across divisions, and delivering compliant policy outputs within fast-changing financial services regulation.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in prudential regulation or risk management within a financial services regulator or regulated firm
  • Knowledge of prudential frameworks incl. IFPR, Basel, ICAAP/ILAAP/ICARA and payments/e-money regimes
  • Strong analytical and written/verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Design, review, and enhance FCA prudential regimes, including IFPR/MIFIDPRU, MIPRU, IPRU, and regimes for payments/e-money/cryptoasset firms
  • Conduct qualitative & quantitative analysis of prudential risks, capital/liquidity adequacy, and firm behaviour to inform policy
  • Monitor market developments, supervisory feedback, and cross-sector risks
  • Engage with Supervision, Enforcement, Data, HM Treasury, industry bodies and firms
  • Manage multiple workstreams to deliver policy outputs on time, identifying dependencies and risks

Salary: National (Edinburgh and Leeds) ranging from £43,100 to £60,000 and London £47,300 to £65,000 per annum (Salary offered will be based on skills and experience)

About the FCA and team

We regulate financial services firms in the UK, to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. By joining us, you’ll play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth, and shaping the future of UK finance services. SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition). Within SPC, the Prudential Policy team (Specialists Directorate) develops, implements, and maintains prudential regimes for over 46,000 FCA-regulated firms. The team develops and maintains prudential regimes including IFPR/MIFIDPRU, MIPRU, IPRU, and prudential requirements for payments, e money and cryptoasset firms. The team works closely with Supervision and other FCA functions to support firm-level assessments and improve financial resilience across the sector.

Role responsibilities

You will contribute to the development and enhancement of important prudential policies and help shape how prudential standards are interpreted and applied across FCA-regulated firms. You will be responsible to:

  • Support the design, review, and enhancement of FCA prudential regimes, including IFPR/MIFIDPRU, MIPRU, IPRU, and prudential standards for payments, e money and cryptoasset firms
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of prudential risks, capital and liquidity adequacy, and firm behaviour to inform policy decisions
  • Monitor market developments, supervisory feedback, and emerging cross sector risks
  • Support engagement with Supervision, Enforcement, Data, HM Treasury, industry bodies and firms
  • Support management of multiple workstreams, ensuring timely delivery of policy outputs, identify dependencies and risks, and propose practical solutions
Skills required

Minimum:

  • Prior experience in prudential regulation or risk management within a financial services regulator or a regulated firm (e.g. investment firm, bank, payments or e-money firm)
  • Working knowledge of prudential frameworks, with substantial experience in one or more of: Basel standards (CRR/CRD), IFPR, payments and e-money regimes, ICAAP, ILAAP or ICARA

Essential:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to plan and manage workstreams, including setting milestones, monitoring progress and delivering against agreed timelines
