Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to design protection and control solutions for EHV substations across AIS & GIS projects from 11kV to 132kV. The role can be based in Newcastle, Stockton-on-Tees, Leeds or Manchester with travel to client offices and sites.

You will produce detailed drawings, develop protection solutions, integrate SCADA systems, and support equipment specifications while collaborating on multi-site projects and contributing to future smart grid

Qualifications

• HNC Electrical Engineering required.
• Proven experience in protection and control scheme design.
• Knowledge of electrical networks and engineering standards.
• Ability to interpret technical design documentation.
• Experience with substation equipment suppliers (ABB/Hitachi, Siemens, GE).
• Familiarity with IEC 61850 and IEC 60870 protocols.
• Full driving licence.

A Little More About Your Role

As a Protection & Control Engineer, you will design of a range of Technical Protection & Control solutions for EHV substation projects including both AIS & GIS substations at voltages ranging from 11kV to 400kV.

You could be based in either our Newcastle, Stockton-on-Tees, Leeds or Manchester offices but you will need the flexibility to travel to UK client offices and sites as required.

You Will

• Produce a comprehensive suite of protection and control system design drawings for 11kV up to and including 132kV systems.
• Develop new protection solutions to meet the requirement of a future smart grid.
• Integrate protection and SCADA systems to deliver cost effective design solutions
• Create all associated Engineering Design calculations and documentation.
• Support the creation of all necessary Equipment specifications.
• Visit Sites to assess project requirements.
• Attend site meetings and provide ongoing design drawing changes / support as required during project build.
• Reviewing designs produced by suppliers and client to ensure designs are technically compliant and in line with current legislation and policies.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

• HNC Electrical Engineering
• Proven experience in the design of protection and control schemes.
• Knowledge of Electrical Networks and Engineering standards
• An ability to interpret technical documentation relating to design.
• Knowledge and experience of working with main suppliers’ products of substation control equipment (such as ABB/Hitachi, Siemens, GE)
• Experience in main standard protocols such as IEC 61850, IEC 60870.
• Full driving licence
