Job summary

North Northamptonshire Council is seeking a Property Lawyer for our in-house Commercial Legal Services. The role involves advising on property matters, handling disposals/acquisitions, and managing landlord and tenant issues while supporting stakeholders across services.

You will hold a relevant degree and be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEX, licensed to practice, with experience in Property work. Training and development opportunities are provided in a supportive team environment.

As a Property Lawyer within our in-house legal team you will work on a diverse and rewarding caseload, providing high-quality legal advice to the client service and stakeholders whilst managing risk, resolving disputes, and ensuring compliance with the law.

As a member of the team you will be supported at a senior level and by your peers in a growing and developing team of professionals. The team’s focus is on enabling service delivery, to achieve this we adopt a partnering model with our clients, supporting them to deliver an ambitious agenda for North Northamptonshire.

What will you be doing?

Role

We are looking for a Lawyer specialising in Property to join our in-house legal team. The role will require you to undertake a caseload of work including:

• Disposals and acquisitions of land and buildings
• A range of Landlord & Tenant work – such as Leases, Licences, Tenancies, Deeds, etc
• Residential purchases and sales
• Providing legal advice on a variety of issues – such as boundary issues, leasehold enquiries.

It is desirable, but not essential, that you have local government experience, however, training and support would be offered as part of your continuous professional development.

The closing date for applications is 20th September and interviews will take place on 24th September 2026.

About You

You will:

• Hold a relevant degree and be a qualified CILEX, Solicitor or Barrister, licensed to practice.
• Effectively and appropriately provide and communicate legal advice commensurate to experience to Members, Officers and other stakeholders generally and at committee meetings.
• Have experience in Property work.
