Job summary

Durham County Council is seeking a part-time Property Assistant to support the day-to-day operations at Aycliffe Secure Centre, Newton Aycliffe. The role is permanent and based 14.5 hours per week.

You will assist the Property Officer and Support Services Officer to ensure the premises are clean, safe, compliant, and maintained to required standards, including monitoring building systems and security. This post includes weekend work on a rota and requires an NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) with

  • Assist with day-to-day operations of the premises and facilities.
  • Monitor and maintain building systems and services to support safe operations.
  • Identify and report compliance issues and carry out routine maintenance tasks.
  • Work a weekend rota as required and support the Property team.

Job description

An opportunity has arisen within Corporate Property and Land for a part time, permanent Property Assistant based at Aycliffe Secure Centre in Newton Aycliffe working 14.5 hours per week.

As a Property Assistant, you will assist with the day-to-day operations of the secure children's home, ensuring they are clean, safe, compliant and maintained to the agreed standards.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

The successful candidate will support the Property Officer and Support Services Officer in delivering an efficient and effective Facilities Management service, ensuring that agreed service standards are consistently achieved.

You will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring the correct operation and maintenance of building systems and services, including boiler plant, mechanical and electrical systems, ventilation, alarms, lifts, building management systems, and other equipment as required to support the effective running of the premises.

A proactive approach is essential, as you will identify, address, and report any premises or compliance-related issues to ensure council facilities remain clean, safe, and fully compliant with health and safety regulations. In addition, you will carry out planned and routine compliance, maintenance, and repair tasks to help maintain a safe, secure, and compliant working environment

This post includes weekend working on a rota basis.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need a NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, first aid at work qualified or willingness to work towards and experience of working in a general maintenance/ premises-based environment.

You should be customer-focussed with good communication skills, and knowledge of safe working practices in a premises-based facilities environment.

If successful, you will be required to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced Disclosure.
