About the Company

Our client is an established construction contractor specialising in the delivery of high-quality design-and-build projects across the industrial, commercial and residential sectors.

With a strong portfolio of projects and a commitment to delivering quality schemes for its clients, the business has developed a reputation for its professional approach, technical expertise and ability to deliver projects from initial concept through to completion.

Due to continued growth and an expanding workload, they are looking to recruit an experienced Project Quantity Surveyor to strengthen their commercial team.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven Project Quantity Surveyor to take responsibility for the financial and contractual management of construction projects.

Working closely with the operational and commercial teams, you will oversee the commercial lifecycle of projects, ensuring costs are controlled, contractual obligations are met and financial performance is maximised.

You will be involved in all aspects of project commercial management, from procurement and subcontractor negotiations through to valuations, variations, cost reporting and final accounts.

The role would suit a Quantity Surveyor with experience working for a main contractor, ideally within a design-and-build environment, who is confident managing projects independently and building effective relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Cost Management
  • Take responsibility for the commercial management of allocated construction projects.
  • Monitor project budgets, costs, forecasts and financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate cost/value reconciliations and regular commercial reports.
  • Identify commercial risks, potential cost overruns and opportunities to improve project profitability.
  • Work closely with project and site teams to ensure commercial targets are achieved.
  • Provide regular financial updates and forecasts to senior management.
Procurement & Subcontractor Management
  • Manage the procurement of subcontractor and supplier packages.
  • Prepare tender enquiries, review quotations and negotiate competitive package costs.
  • Prepare and issue subcontract orders and ensure contractual documentation is in place.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and manage commercial relationships.
  • Assess subcontractor applications for payment and agree final accounts.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering.
Valuations, Variations & Final Accounts
  • Prepare, submit and negotiate interim applications for payment.
  • Manage variations, change control and additional works.
  • Ensure all variations are properly valued, recorded and agreed.
  • Maintain accurate contractual records and commercial documentation.
  • Manage client valuations and payment applications.
  • Lead the preparation, negotiation and agreement of project final accounts.
Project & Stakeholder Management
  • Work alongside Project Managers, Site Managers and senior operational staff to support successful project delivery.
  • Attend project progress and commercial meetings.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Provide commercial advice and guidance to the wider project team.
  • Ensure contractual procedures and company commercial processes are followed.
  • Support the resolution of commercial disputes and contractual issues.
About You
  • Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry.
  • Experience working for a main contractor is highly desirable.
  • Background in design-and-build construction projects.
  • Exposure to industrial, commercial or residential construction schemes.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement, subcontractor management and commercial reporting.
  • Experience managing valuations, variations, cost control and final accounts.
  • Good understanding of construction contracts and contractual procedures.
  • Strong negotiation, communication and relationship-management skills.
  • Excellent commercial awareness with the ability to identify and manage financial risks.
  • The ability to manage your own workload and take responsibility for project commercial performance.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management is desirable.
What's on Offer?
  • £45,000 - £60,000 salary, depending on experience.
  • Additional package and benefits.
  • The opportunity to join an established and growing construction contractor.
  • Involvement in a varied portfolio of industrial, commercial and residential projects.
  • Responsibility for managing projects and influencing commercial performance.
  • A supportive working environment with opportunities for long-term career development.
