Job summary

Atomic Weapons Establishment is seeking an experienced Project / Programme / Portfolio Lead to drive the delivery of complex estates, infrastructure and business change initiatives.

You will coordinate multiple stakeholders, budgets and partners to realise long-term benefits and ensure governance, time and cost control.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience leading complex projects, programmes or portfolios within estates, infrastructure, engineering, construction, facilities management, capital delivery or major asset environment.
  • Strong track record delivering large-scale estates or infrastructure programmes from strategy to benefits realisation.
  • Experience in complex, highly regulated environments balancing operational requirements with long-term investment objectives.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and external delivery partners across multiple workstreams and stakeholder groups.

Project / Programme / Portfolio Lead

Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.

Package: From £85,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience) + 10% annual bonus.

At AWE, we're seeking an experienced Project / Programme / Portfolio Lead to lead the delivery of complex estates, infrastructure and business change programmes that are critical to our future capability and strategic objectives. This role requires a leader who has successfully delivered large-scale capital investment, estates transformation, infrastructure development, facilities, engineering or construction programmes, bringing together multiple stakeholders, budgets and delivery partners to realise long-term business outcomes. You will be accountable for delivering programme benefits, maintaining strategic alignment and ensuring successful delivery to time, cost, quality and governance requirements.

Experience and Competence
  • Significant experience leading complex projects, programmes or portfolios within an estates, infrastructure, engineering, construction, facilities management, capital delivery or major asset environment.
  • A strong track record of delivering large-scale estates or infrastructure programmes, from strategic planning and business case development through to implementation and benefits realisation.
  • Experience operating within complex, highly regulated environments, balancing operational requirements with long-term infrastructure investment and transformation objectives.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and external delivery partners across multiple workstreams and stakeholder groups.
  • Experience managing significant budgets, resources, risks and dependencies associated with major capital investment programmes.

Eligibility and Diversity

You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE.

The nature of our work does mean you need to be a British Citizen who has been resident in the UK for the past 5 years in order to apply for SC clearance and 10 years for DV.

Our Programme

We are at the start of a once in a generation - possibly two generations - programme to design and produce a replacement warhead for the UK's continuous at sea deterrent. We will do this while continuing to deliver the Trident programme as well as managing ambitious state-of-the-art capital and construction projects - some of which have never been done before.
