Assistant Project Manager
Location: Huntingdon
Contract type: Contract
Salary: £220.18 per day PAYE or £300 per day limited paid via umbrella company inside IR35
Hours: 37 hours (part‑time, term‑time work patterns). Flexible working options available.
The client is looking for an experienced Assistant Project Manager to support the development and delivery of new transport infrastructure projects across Cambridgeshire.
Responsibilities
- Deliver and support the delivery of transport infrastructure programmes.
- Drive forward innovative ideas across a programme of schemes.
- Ensure effective and efficient delivery of schemes across a wide range of transport projects.
- Bring together stakeholder groups (Parish and District Councils, resident and campaign groups, and businesses) to set delivery outcomes and define service outcomes.
- Support the Group Manager and other managers within the Project Delivery Directorate through joined‑up service planning, community engagement and flexible use of resources.
Qualifications
- HND or degree in Project Management, or a relevant discipline, or working towards professional qualification or relevant experience.
- A relevant professional membership e.g. Chartered/Incorporated Engineer.
- A proven track record in leading the development, planning and implementation of transport infrastructure and related projects.
- Extensive programme/project management experience with a reputation for delivery.
- Extensive knowledge of technical and contractual requirements relating to scheme development, construction and maintenance.
- Experience in budget management (including local government finance).
- Experience working with elected politicians and ensuring that project and service outcomes align with broader political priorities.
- Good negotiation skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships with senior staff throughout the Authority and external organisations.
- Practical experience in dealing and negotiating with consultants and contractors.
- Experience developing partnerships at the highest levels with other agencies to ensure project and service objectives are met.
- Proven experience of financial and resource planning and the ability to deliver value for money on contracts within a multi‑disciplinary financial environment engaging with stakeholders.
