Senior Project Planner - Civil Infrastructure | Elgin | Contract

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Planner to join a leading civil engineering and infrastructure organisation based in Elgin. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of major projects from initiation through to completion, working in a collaborative and client-facing environment.

Location: Elgin (office/site-based 4 days per week)
Sector: Civil Infrastructure / Construction

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead project planning activities across all stages - from initiation through to completion.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain project programmes using Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project, ensuring works are planned efficiently using norms and output sheets.
  • Monitor project progress and produce accurate monthly reports, identifying and managing variances.
  • Evaluate programmes, identify critical paths, and implement corrective actions to maintain delivery schedules.
  • Manage subcontractor programmes, ensuring alignment with overall project objectives and milestones.
  • Interpret and manage programmes under NEC (or similar) contracts from a contractual perspective.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, to communicate progress and resolve programme issues.
  • Mentor and support junior planners, fostering a culture of collaboration and professional development within the team.
About You
  • Proven experience delivering projects from initiation to completion within the civil infrastructure or construction sector.
  • Stable employment history demonstrating consistent delivery and commitment.
  • Strong understanding of planning principles and techniques, including output-based planning and resource loading.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Excel (practical P6 skills will be assessed at interview).
  • Experience managing progress updates, monthly reporting cycles, and subcontractor programmes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence working in client-facing roles.
  • Demonstrated experience under NEC or similar contract forms.
  • Ability to lead by example, mentor junior team members, and contribute to a high-performing project delivery team.
