Job summary

Environment Agency in Bridgwater is seeking a Project Manager to lead aspects of the Bridgwater Tidal Barrier flood risk scheme. You will work within Project & Programme Delivery, coordinating engineering teams, suppliers and client representatives to deliver on time and within governance frameworks.

You will apply your commercial acumen in contracts, risk management and governance, with strong stakeholder engagement and incident response awareness as part of EA responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Project management experience in engineering, construction and/or flood & coastal risk management.
• Experience managing contracts, ideally through the NEC4 suites.
• Experience delivering results through coordination of technical teams.
• Established interpersonal and influencing skills, managing internal and external stakeholders.
• Undertaken project management training (e.g., PRINCE practitioner or APM PMQ).
• An established knowledge base in an engineering, environmental or geography related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Deliver aspects of the Bridgwater Tidal Barrier scheme within one of three workstreams, two in construction.
• Support project team members and adapt involvement to team strength.
• Build collaborative relationships with suppliers, client representatives and technical specialists.
• Apply governance, project assurance and legislation in decision making.

Are you interested in being part of a flagship flood risk scheme for the South West? We are looking for a Project Manager to join the team delivering the Bridgwater Tidal Barrier, designed to protect thousands of homes and businesses from tidal flooding. With sea levels projected to rise by up to one metre over the next 100 years and more frequent extreme weather events, the scheme offers long-term protection and resilience. It will also bring lasting community benefit through improved access and connectivity in the local area.

You will deliver aspects of the scheme within one of three workstreams, two of which are currently in construction. You will support project team members, flexing your involvement to suit the strength of the team. This role sits within Project & Programme Delivery (SW Hub).

You will build a collaborative working environment with our suppliers, client representatives and other technical specialists. Applying your strong commercial acumen in project, contract and risk management, you will establish effective relationships and facilitate collaborative and efficient ways of working.

You will make project decisions informed by technical leads whilst following governance procedures, project assurance and legislation. The ability to develop a resilient network of relationships with stakeholders is crucial to the success of the role.

The team

We are Project and Programme Delivery (PPD), creating a better place through excellence in project and programme management. Our teams provide the Environment Agency with an effective project and programme management service. Our well-qualified staff manage projects throughout their lifecycle to deliver flood risk management, environmental improvements and shared ownership with local communities. Although dispersed through offices across the region we create collaborative spaces to share learning and develop our people.

Experience/skills Required

Essential

• Project management experience in engineering, construction and/or flood & coastal risk management.


• Experience managing contracts, ideally through the NEC4 suites.


• Experience delivering results through co-ordination of technical teams.


• Established interpersonal and influencing skills, managing internal and external stakeholders.


• Undertaken relevant project management training, e.g. PRINCE practitioner or APM PMQ or ability to display associated skill base.


• An established knowledge and skill base (gained via a formal qualification, or equivalent experience) in an engineering, environmental or geography related discipline.

Desirable

• Chartered member of professional body (examples listed above) or actively working towards this.


• An area of expertise (e.g. hydrology, river modelling, asset management, business case development, cost monitoring/forecasting, CDM, design or construction).


• Experience using Project Management tools such as Microsoft Project.
