Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a Project Manager to lead high-profile energy transition projects from conception through delivery. You will coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, maintain strong client relationships, and ensure safety, quality, cost and schedule KPIs are achieved.

The role requires Chartered Engineer credentials or equivalent, extensive PM experience in energy projects, and a willingness to travel within the UK and abroad as needed. Hybrid working is supported.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualification (or equivalent) in engineering with significant post-graduate project management experience.
  • Chartered Engineer membership and professional institute involvement desirable.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas as required by projects.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Project Manager on high-profile projects within our portfolio and lead multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Engage with Client and delivery partners to drive efficient approaches and progress.
  • Ensure deliverables meet safety, quality, cost, and schedule KPIs.
  • Support Energy Transition team’s P&L and ensure governance compliance.
  • Secure competent technical and commercial resources for projects.

A Little More About Your Role…

In this role, you will be responsible for leading and delivering some of the most challenging and rewarding projects within the WSP Low Carbon Energy business. We are delivering some of the world’s most important projects to support the Net Zero transition, from efficient thermal generation plant to innovative low carbon energy and fuels projects, hydrogen production and natural gas, CO2 and hydrogen networks development. The Project Delivery team leads those projects at all stages of the project lifecycle where stewardship from early client engagement through to delivery and handover helps to build long‑term client relationships. The ability to pick up and manage a portfolio of projects and activities at any stage is therefore a key aspect of the role. This also allows our project managers to grow as well as deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients alongside our engineering and operational teams.

Core Activities Will Include
  • Acting as Project Manager on a high-profile projects within our portfolio and providing leadership across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Regular and proactive engagement with the Client and other delivery partners to promote efficient and appropriate approach and progress.
  • Ensuring project deliverables meet and exceed client expectations and KPIs in respect of safety, CSR, quality, cost, and schedule.
  • Ensuring projects deliver expected operational targets and supporting the delivery of the Energy Transition team’s P&L.
  • Ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with corporate governance requirements, and liaising with our various operations and commercial teams to deliver best practice.
  • Ensuring competent technical and commercial resources are secured for projects.
Our Team

Our team’s expertise covers all Low Carbon generation and conversion technologies including power generation, novel first of a kind concepts, gas networks and other low or zero carbon technologies. Working together with private developers, power utilities, government bodies, banks, lending agencies, contractors and OEM’s we safely deliver projects whilst meeting and exceeding client expectations.

Our teams are tactically placed in the UK, India, Ireland and wider Europe. We work internationally with our clients and other Energy sector teams in North America, Middle East, Africa, South America, Asia, New Zealand and Australia.

The Low Carbon team provides services to Clients from inception through development, construction, operation, and decommissioning. An approach that sees us support our clients over the entire lifecycle of a project.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…

Degree qualification (or equivalent) in relevant Engineering subject supported with significant post graduate experience in Engineering Project Management, design and or operation, maintenance and testing.

  • Chartered Engineer and a member of relevant Engineering Institute.
  • Significant experience of leading multi-disciplinary consultancy teams in the Energy sector.
  • Outstanding client focus and a commitment to problem solving in a collaborative way.
  • Knowledge of the design and construction of power and energy projects.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence and work with people at all levels of an organisation.
  • Ability to deal with conflicting priorities and offer win‑win solutions.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas, as required by the projects.
