Project Manager – Permanent (Scotland)

Rubicon Consulting is recruiting for a Project Manager within our SSE North Scotland business to lead a number of small teams installing and constructing electrical power distribution and transmission systems from 11 kV to 132 kV. The role delivers safe, profitable, timely, high‑workmanship quality and fit‑for‑purpose networks for the customer and promotes the company in a positive light at all times.

Role Overview

As a Project Manager you will manage your own projects while supervising and directing staff in the management, control and execution of diverse electrical network projects running concurrently. Projects may include installation of ground‑mounted and structure‑mounted power system components, cable systems, switchgear, transformers, busbars, relay panels and associated equipment in substations operating up to 132 kV.

Key Deliverables

• Lead multiple project managers and teams, executing duties professionally to build team and customer confidence and contribute to business growth.
• Provide leadership, drive, discipline, and support to Project Managers and teams through direction, guidance, advice, support, commitment, effort and dedication as required.
• Work within all set procedures and ensure Health & Safety is the most important element.
• Undertake the site supervisor role when required, in accordance with CDM regulations, including control of customer‑appointed contractors and/or company‑appointed subcontract labour.
• Efficiently execute the project management role on multiple concurrent projects while managing the team of Project Managers.
• Oversee tasks and task types allocated to others in a diligent manner to achieve effective project delivery.
• Appraise direct reports regularly to develop skills, increase knowledge base and improve performance.
• Control resources – organise, control and deploy materials/equipment/labour for upcoming works across multiple projects.
• Demonstrate good commercial awareness and complete valuations against a set scope.
• Produce as‑built records, test results, updated drawings and reports for projects.

Requirements

• HNC/Degree in Electrical Engineering (or time served).
• Good operational knowledge of electrical power distribution systems.
• Site safety passport and/or experience of working on CDM sites.
• SSSTS or SMSTS is desirable, not essential.
• Possession of SSE DNO authorisation to receive and cancel PTW (or alternative equivalent DNO authorisation e.g. SPEN, NPg, UKPN).
