Job summary

Qualifications

Project Manager for Highways and Spatial Data

Basic Salary: Competitive

Requirements: 2 years' experience in a similar role

Responsible for the successful planning, coordination, delivery and commercial management of client projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards. The role provides leadership and support to operational teams through coaching, mentoring and effective resource management while maintaining strong client relationships and driving continuous improvement across the business.

The Project Manager will support the Head of Department in delivering the annual business plan, achieving revenue and profit targets, and embedding a high-performance, client-focused culture aligned with Severn Partnership’s core values of Professional, Lean and Team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead, motivate and manage project teams to deliver exceptional results and exceed client expectations.
  • Provide inspirational coaching, mentoring and support to direct reports, building capability, technical competence and leadership skills.
  • Support the induction, training and development of team members, including site-based surveying skills and company procedures.
  • Mentor Senior Surveyors and other team members in project planning, estimating and quotation processes.
  • Deliver regular performance feedback to the Head of Department for inclusion in probation reviews & PDR’s
  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement and retention initiatives.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT & OPERATIONS
  • Manage projects from initial enquiry through to final delivery, ensuring client requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Assist bid writer in preparing quotations and project proposals in accordance with company procedures for projects of all sizes.
  • Ensure contractual documentation is completed, accurate and appropriately authorised.
  • Develop and deliver detailed project briefings, schedules and resource allocations to optimise operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate personnel, equipment, vehicles, software and project resources to ensure successful project execution.
  • Monitor project progress against budgets, schedules and quality standards, taking corrective action where necessary.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients throughout project delivery, ensuring regular progress updates are communicated in a timely manner.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, identifying opportunities for repeat business and service enhancement.
  • Liaise closely with Technical Managers, Surveyors and Data Analysts to ensure project milestones and deliverables are achieved.
  • Resolve operational issues proactively and elevate complex, time-critical, commercial or safety-related matters appropriately.
  • Conduct final quality assurance reviews and approve project deliverables prior to client issue.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, contractual obligations and statutory requirements.
COMMERCIAL & BUSINESS GROWTH
  • Support the preparation of large-scale tenders and commercial submissions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability, operational efficiency and service delivery.
  • Contribute to achieving departmental revenue, utilisation and profit targets.
  • Monitor project financial performance, including budgets, costs, margins and resource utilisation.
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Support the Head of Department and senior leadership team in delivering the annual business plan and growth objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for business development and expansion of existing client relationships.
LEADERSHIP & ADMINISTRATION
  • Monitor departmental performance and provide regular updates to the Head of Department.
  • Support the development and implementation of operational policies, procedures and best practices.
  • Demonstrate strong commercial awareness and accountability for project performance.
  • Keep up to date with industry developments, emerging technologies and best practice standards.
  • Take responsibility for personal development and professional growth.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
  • Proven experience in project management within surveying, geospatial, engineering or a related technical environment.
  • Experience in land surveying, engineering, geospatial services or related industries.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication and people management skills.
  • Excellent organisational, planning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commercial awareness with experience in managing budgets and project profitability.
  • Strong client relationship management and communication skills.
  • UK Driving License
