Project Manager - Ecology
ROLE PURPOSE

As a Project Manager within RPS's Ecology team, you will provide key project management support to the GB-wide ecology portfolio from a regional office base. Your role will focus on managing projects across multiple sectors including renewables, housing, defence, and infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered efficiently through strong financial control, budgeting, scheduling, and resource coordination. You will track the delivery of ecological field surveys and project milestones, ensuring operational excellence and client satisfaction. Additionally, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project management processes and workflows across the team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage and coordinate ecology projects across renewables, housing, defence, and infrastructure sectors, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and aligned with client expectations.
  • Develop, monitor, and control project budgets and forecasts, collaborating with finance teams to ensure accurate invoicing and financial accountability.
  • Create and maintain detailed project schedules tracking ecological fieldwork, survey delivery, and other key milestones.
  • Oversee logistics and resource allocation for field surveys, ensuring compliance with licensing, health & safety, and operational standards.
  • Drive improvements in project management processes, tools, and reporting systems to increase efficiency and delivery quality across GB projects.
  • Work closely with ecology specialists and multidisciplinary teams to support smooth project execution and knowledge sharing.
  • Maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication, expectation management, and identification of further business opportunities.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members on project management best practices.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
  • Proven project management experience, ideally within environmental consultancy or related sectors, with strong budgeting, financial control, and delivery tracking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong financial literacy including budget preparation, cost monitoring, and working with finance teams.
  • Excellent organisational skills and proactive problem-solving approach to scheduling and resource challenges.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience coordinating fieldwork logistics and ensuring compliance with operational and health & safety requirements.
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits and client meetings.
  • Ecological knowledge is advantageous but not essential; the primary requirement is robust project management expertise and a proactive, client‑focused approach.
