Projects range from medium‑scale renewal contracts for highway authorities to complex transformational programmes supporting digital, data, and technology strategies. Projects also include safety, operational systems, electric vehicles, connectivity, and automation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take ownership for the successful delivery of projects/programmes, giving leadership and direction to the team, effectively communicating with all parties, identifying and managing risks, planning and progress monitoring, and implementing appropriate project controls.
  • Build strong and effective relationships with clients, acting as a trusted advisor to help achieve their objectives.
  • Work with and manage other WSP teams in the multidisciplinary project/programme environment.
  • Work with and manage supply chain suppliers, including sub‑consultants and contractors, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
  • Optimise the resource balance across the project/programme, ensuring all deliverables and milestones are achieved on time and to the right quality.
  • Monitor and report project/programme finances, reporting both within the business and to the client in a clear and productive manner.
  • Work with a range of stakeholders, internally and externally, to identify solutions, share best practice and drive the best outcomes for projects.
  • Act as a role model and mentor for other project management staff, contributing to the development and knowledge sharing within the Portfolio, Programme, and Project Management (P3M) community of practice.
  • Champion excellent health and safety practice and lead project management commissions to achieve safe, sustainable, and efficient outcomes that meet agreed objectives.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience of project management at practitioner level across multiple projects simultaneously with complex reporting structures.
  • Proven experience in managing both project delivery and commercial performance, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget while optimising financial outcomes and driving value for the business.
  • Experience leading or working as part of a high‑performing team, with the ability to influence and motivate others with different levels of experience and skills.
  • Experience working as a client, consultant, or contractor in public and/or private sector environments delivering complex projects/programmes.
  • Understanding and practical experience of delivering projects/programmes within a structured project control process.
  • Hold a relevant project management qualification, e.g., APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ).
  • Robust project management skills with a track record for successful project delivery, ideally within a transport, public sector, or high‑risk environment. Capability in managing proposals and bids, including comprehensive bid planning, efficient resource coordination, and high‑quality proposal writing.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage complex matrix environments, effectively coordinating and collaborating with multiple subject‑matter experts and stakeholders across various functions to ensure alignment.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with proven experience in building rapport and trust with colleagues, clients and key stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; able to influence, engender commitment to deliver on a purpose and engage with people.
  • Able to challenge and constructively probe and offer an alternative perspective in discussions while comfortably presenting ideas and views.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within real and virtual environments, sharing information and engaging the right people to make decisions in an effective and timely manner.
  • Works with clients to help them with their challenges (client‑driven/cross‑selling) to deliver services in a better environment.
Benefits
  • Mature and established project management career path supported by continued professional development, including APM training programmes from foundation level to Chartership.
  • In‑house Project Leadership Group for sharing best practice and learning lessons with peers.
