As the European market leader weve built and operated networks in Uppsala Amsterdam and partnership with local authorities commercial organisations and communities our mission is to free UK cities from fossil-fuelled heating.

In the UK we are delivering low-carbon heating in London Bristol and Midlothian. This role sits within the Bristol Buried Networks team which is focused on the planning installation and management of heat network infrastructure in the highway. These works involve major civil and mechanical engineering projects across the city and form the backbone of the city-scale heat networks.

The purpose of this role is to ensure that the complex and large-scale delivery of buried heat network infrastructure in Bristol is managed in a safe structured and efficient way while also building the next generation of project managers within Vattenfall Heat UK.

The Project Manager Associate Heat provides essential support to Senior Project Managers and the wider project team in the planning governance and execution of civil and mechanical engineering works. These projects are fundamental to the creation of Bristols low-carbon district heating system which will decarbonise heat supply for communities and businesses across the city.

This role exists at the intersection of project administration and project leadership. On one hand it provides practical project support such as financial administration risk management documentation and coordination. On the other it actively develops project management skills by leading sub-projects managing processes and taking ownership of specific work packages. This dual focus ensures the successful delivery of todays projects while preparing the post-holder for a future role as a fully accountable Project Manager.

The post-holder will therefore play a visible part in ensuring projects are delivered to time cost quality and safety standards whilst also gaining the technical commercial and stakeholder experience required to progress their career within the Vattenfall project management model.

Key Responsibilities / Duties
  • Support Senior Project Managers in day-to-day delivery ensuring projects are delivered safely on time within budget and to high quality standards.
  • Assist with project steering scheduling procurement contract management financial forecasting risk management and governance processes.
  • Manage specific sub-projects work packages and communication streams.
  • Provide project administration including onboarding / offboarding team members organising meetings and managing PPE and logistics.
  • Lead or contribute to risk workshops maintain risk registers and provide input into project and corporate risk reporting.
  • Support steering group and tollgate decision-making processes by preparing presentation material and reports.
  • Maintain project documentation and governance ensuring lessons learned and project handbooks are up to date.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders including contractors consultants Bristol City Council and members of the public.
  • Contribute to management reporting budget control and invoice / purchase requisition processing (SAP).
Qualifications
  • University degree or diploma in a relevant discipline (engineering construction business administration project management) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience providing project support or management in infrastructure utilities or engineering projects.
  • Excellent organisation attention to detail and ability to connect detail to the wider project picture.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
  • Adaptable proactive and able to work successfully with uncertainty.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office 365 (Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint); willingness to use MS Project.
  • High level of initiative reliability and structured working style.
