Job summary

Costain is seeking a Project Manager to lead a portfolio of maintenance projects for United Utilities in the Northwest. You will oversee design, procurement, assembly, commissioning and handover, while building trusted relationships with UU personnel and supply chain partners.

The role is hybrid, requiring coordination between office and home-based work depending on project needs. A strong background in water projects and contract law is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience managing multidisciplinary projects, especially Civils/MEICA in water.
• Strong track record delivering project programmes on time and to budget.
• Knowledge of construction contract law and forms of contract.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary teams and ensure successful project delivery from design to handover.
• Maintain supply chain compliance with the framework management plan.
• Promote a strong safety culture to prevent LTIs and incidents.
• Provide strategic engagement with UU stakeholders and partners.
• Ensure accurate reporting into MSP systems and proactive risk management.

United Utilities have awarded Costain a new Managed Service Provider (MSP) framework contract. Under the contract Costain provide the overall management and delivery of United Utilities' larger-scale water and wastewater asset maintenance activities across the entirety of its network, including 96 water treatment and 575 wastewater treatment sites, which serves over six million people in the North West of England. Costain are working with United Utilities (UU) on a framework agreement to provide overall management and execution of the larger-scale on-site asset maintenance activities across the Northwest region, including the provision and management of supplementary engineering services to manage and deliver diverse works.

The Project Manager will lead on the delivery of planned and reactive project work across the UU region and develop key relationships with UU operational personnel, supply chain partners and promote a team spirit environment. The role will require experience of both design and delivery of water projects with the successful individual likely responsible for the delivery of a portfolio of smaller projects.

This role will be hyrbid. Working from the office and home will be depend on the project requirements, but fit in with the indivudal.

Responsibilities

• Leadership, line management and development of multidisciplinary teams
• Provide whole life oversight and accountability for the successful completion of maintenance projects and services, through design, procurement, assembly, commissioning, and handover
• Ensure supply chain remain compliant with the framework management plan
• Provide Leadership to create a safety culture to ensure Zero LTI and RIDDOR Incidents
• Ensure a commercial focus with a high level of challenge on project scope and choosing efficient delivery strategies
• Ensure all stakeholders within MSP and United Utilities are engaged at strategic & operational levels and supportive of the projects and services and their potential impacts
• Ensure consistent and reliable reporting of project/services performance into the MSP systems
• Ensure key project and programme risks are identified early, and mitigated where possible

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential

• Previous experience of managing multidisciplinary projects including Civils and MEICA (preferably in the water sector)
• Strong track record of delivery of project programmes
• Knowledge and understanding of construction contract law and forms of contract through experience and formal training
• Ability to build trusted relationships with key client stakeholders, Supply Chain partners, within your team and across the Framework & Costain group
• Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, Document control system, Primavera software)
• Good communication and interpersonal skills

Qualifications

• HNC/HND or degree in a relevant engineering discipline
• SMSTS qualification or IOSH Managing Safely
• Relevant CSCS card
