Job summary

Murphy is recruiting for a Project Manager to lead Transportation projects across the Northwest and Central Framework, including the North-West/Birmingham, with responsibility for scope, safety, schedule and budget.

You will manage multi-disciplinary teams, coordinate with Network Rail and other stakeholders, and drive project controls, risk management and procurement to deliver successful outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering high-profile railway enhancement projects including Earthworks, Bridges and Structures.
  • Appropriate safety training/qualification for works (e.g. PTS).
  • Experience in project and construction management integrating multi-disciplinary workstreams from multiple contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and be accountable for a project portfolio across NW/C routes with Network Rail.
  • Ensure safe delivery, on time, within budget and to required quality standards.
  • Organise the project team and chair regular progress meetings; manage change and risk control.

Murphy is recruiting for a Project Managerto work with Transportation on the North West and Central Framework - covering the North-West/Birmingham.

You will be responsible to lead and be accountable for a project portfolio of projects across NW&C routes working in close conjunction with Network Rail, ensuring that the scope of works are delivered in a safe manner, on time, to the required quality standards, meeting the acceptance criteria and achieving the expected financial outcomes.

A day in the life of a Murphy Project Manager

  • To be fully ownership for the delivery of the project, ensuring it is completed safely, on time, in accordance with the contract requirements and to the agreed budget.EEnsure works are planned, managed and delivered in a safe, controlled and environmentally sustainable manner.
  • Ensure risk assessments are created, in place and reviewed regularly.Ensure responsibilities of Principal Contractor are discharged in line with CDM Regulations
  • Organise the project team to deliver the contracted scope of works.
  • Manage the project team, providing guidance and direction and assist their professional development.
  • Chair regular project team meetings, ensuring actions are recorded and closed out.
  • Ensure the project requirements are identified, understood and delivered and key issues are resolved and controlled.
  • Refer any significant issues to the overseeing manager and work with them to ensure they are managed and resolved.
  • Manage the “fit to start” process to ensure that we mobilise in a controlled and timely manner to facilitate the timely delivery of the project scope.
  • Ensure there is an effective, comprehensive and formal handover from the team to the delivery team.
  • Where relevant, arrange for mobilisation and demobilisation of projects assisted by PSCDevelop and maintain effective communication and relationships with the Client and other project stakeholders (internal and external).
  • Ensure the requirements of the contract are complied to by the project team and administered and discharged appropriately.
  • Ensure that suitable and robust change control processes are in place to identify, notify, measure and concur the impact of change in accordance with the contract requirements.
  • Ensure detailed records and allocation sheets are maintained for all aspects of the project.
  • Lead the development of resource forecasts (staff, labour, key plant and materials), ensuring they are aligned and coordinated with the programme.
  • Accountable for ensuring the financial performance of the project (or aspect of a project) is achieved or exceeded.
  • Leading the review of the project CRF on a monthly basis.
  • Ensuring the project performance is reported in a transparent and accurate mannerLead the development and implementation of improvement actions where necessary to ensure the financial objectives are achieved / bettered.
  • Assist the procurement of suppliers and sub-contractors.

  • Experience in high profile, politically delicate railway enhancement projects with a focus on Earthworks, Properties/AFAs, Bridges and structures.
  • Appropriate safety training and qualification for the nature of the works (e.g. PTS)
  • Experience in the project and construction management of an engineering project, integrating multi-disciplinary workstreams from multiple contractors.
  • Client and stakeholder management and management of a project team.
  • Awareness of the use and interpretation of project controls to review the status of a project.
  • Commercial awareness and experience of planning programming.
  • Ideally a degree or HNC / HND or NVQ Level 5.
  • Driven forward-thinker who flourishes on finding innovative solutions to delivery challenges
