Job summary

Modis is seeking a Project Manager to join a defence-focused programme based in Bristol. The role supports the full lifecycle of complex engineering projects with hybrid working—2-3 days on site per week—and requires strong governance, cost, and schedule management.

You will lead bids, manage cross-functional teams and stakeholders, and contribute to business-winning activities while delivering against customer commitments.

Qualifications

• Experience in engineering, manufacturing, aerospace or defence environments.
• Ability to operate in a matrix organisation.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience managing programme risk, cost and schedule performance.
• Understanding of project controls and Earned Value Management (EVM).
• Commercial awareness and sound business judgement.

Project Manager

Location: Bristol

Salary: £50,000 - £56,000 depending on experience

Working Pattern: Hybrid working, typically 2-3 days per week on site

Security Clearance: British Citizen or Dual UK National with British citizenship. Successful candidates will be required to undergo BPSS clearance as a minimum.

We're supporting a leading defence organisation in the search for a Senior Project Manager to join a growing and highly successful project management community.

This is an opportunity to work across the full programme lifecycle, supporting both business-winning activities and the delivery of complex engineering programmes. You'll play a key role in shaping future opportunities, developing winning propositions and ensuring successful delivery against customer, cost, schedule and performance commitments.

Working in a highly collaborative environment, you'll engage with engineering, commercial, finance, supply chain and customer stakeholders while helping to deliver some of the UK's most advanced defence programmes.

What We're Looking For

• Previous Project or Programme Management experience, ideally within engineering, manufacturing, aerospace or defence environments.
• Experience operating within a matrix organisation.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience managing programme risk, cost and schedule performance.
• Understanding of project controls, schedule management and Earned Value Management (EVM).
• Experience influencing and negotiating across multiple functions.
• Commercial awareness and sound business judgement.
• Ability to work effectively within complex and evolving environments.
• Bid, proposal or business-winning experience would be advantageous.
• Professional project management qualifications (APM, Prince2, PMP or equivalent) are beneficial.
