Job Title: Project Manager - Highways (East Sussex)

Location: Ringmer Depot & Various Sites Across East Sussex

Contract Type: Inside IR35

Duration: 6 months initially (potential for extension)

Start Date: ASAP

Working Hours: 7:30am - 5:00pm, Monday to Friday

Vehicle: Not provided (own transport required)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and deliver multiple highway projects across East Sussex in collaboration with the local authority. This role involves managing works across the design and build stages, ensuring delivery to the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in highways maintenance, civil engineering, and project management, with a strong understanding of local authority frameworks, permit control, and quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the end-to-end delivery of highways and infrastructure projects across East Sussex.
• Lead projects through design, planning, and construction phases.
• Oversee project scope, programme, budgets, and resources to ensure timely delivery.
• Liaise with local authority representatives, contractors, and stakeholders to maintain strong working relationships.
• Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, Health & Safety legislation, and company procedures.
• Manage permit applications, traffic management, and quality assurance processes.
• Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Champion health, safety, and environmental excellence across all works.

Key Requirements

• Proven experience in highways or civil engineering project management, ideally with a local authority or Tier 1 contractor.
• Strong knowledge of highways maintenance, construction techniques, and design management.
• Relevant qualification in Construction, Civil Engineering, or Project Management.
• CSCS (Managers level or equivalent).
• SMSTS certification.
• Knowledge of CDM Regulations, Health & Safety, and Quality Management Systems.
• Experience with Permit Management and Quality Control.
• Excellent communication, coordination, and leadership skills.
• Ability to manage multiple live projects across varied stages.
• Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle.

Desirable

• Formal project management qualification (e.g., APM, PRINCE2, or equivalent).
• Experience working on local authority frameworks or public sector contracts.
• Familiarity with NEC contract management.
