Role Summary

Assistant Project Manager, Estates and Capital Projects Department, Full-time 41 hours per week (including one hour paid lunch break), Permanent contract, Hybrid with 3 days on-site minimum. Salary £41,723. Application deadline: 12:00 5th January.

About the role

The Estates and Capital Projects department at the British Museum is hiring an Assistant Project Manager to support work on a range of transformational building projects. These projects, typically ranging from £25k to £5m gross with occasional larger schemes, vary from infrastructure projects to public‑facing gallery developments. The role ensures all work is carried out efficiently to the required quality, time and budget constraints and in accordance with legal and statutory requirements.

About you

Strong organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively in a fast‑paced environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement. Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable working with spreadsheets and financial systems. Interest in developing project management skills within a construction or heritage setting. Knowledge of health and safety practices and willingness to learn Museum processes. Proactive team player with a problem‑solving approach.

Key areas of responsibility
  • Support Client Project Managers and Programme Managers in delivering capital projects across the Museum's estate.
  • Assist with project planning, documentation and coordination of site activities.
  • Manage project information, including reports, records and version control.
  • Coordinate meetings, agendas, minutes and follow‑up actions.
  • Support procurement processes, including tender documentation and evaluation.
  • Monitor project finances, prepare purchase orders and maintain cost reports.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, statutory requirements and Museum policies.
