Job summary

J. Murphy & Sons Ltd. is seeking a Project Manager to plan and deliver on a medium site or multiple smaller sites in Kendal, ensuring milestones and standards are met.

You will manage contract programmes, develop the operational team, and supervise Site Managers and Section Managers while maintaining strong client relationships and reporting on progress. You will also oversee risk assessments, resource planning, and commercial controls for contracts with turnovers up to £15M annually, including

Qualifications

• Successful experience as a Project Manager with proven ability to deliver good profit margins.
• Experience on water/utilities projects worth £15 million+ is desirable.
• Experience delivering horizontal drilling and pipe jacking operations is advantageous.
• Proven ability to lead teams and performance manage.
• IT literate: Microsoft Office and project tools.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for effective client relationship management and updates to stakeholders on project progress.
• Ensure risk assessments are created, in place and reviewed as required.
• Ensure operating plans are in place to ensure resources and materials are available.
• Responsible for a contract with turnover between £1M - £15M per annum.
• Oversee commercial activities including gross margin delivery, cost control and other financial metrics.
• Implement CDP (Cultural Development Programme) on sites.

A day in the life of a Murphy Project Manager

• Plan and deliver all work on a medium sized site or many smaller sites, ensuring work is completed on time and to the correct standard


• Ensure contract programmes are planned, reviewed and delivered


• Build and develop the wider operational team to deliver all aspects of the project/contract requirements


• Line management of Site Managers, Assistant Site Managers and Section Managers


• Responsible for effective client relationship management and provides updates to internal and external stakeholders on project/contract progress


• Ensure risk assessments are created, in place and reviewed as and when required


• Ensures operating plans are in place to ensure sufficient resources and materials are in place


• Responsible for a contract with an indicative turnover of between £1M - £15M per annum


• Responsible for all commercial activities associated with the project including the delivery of the gross margin, management of cost control and other key commercial and financial metrics


• Responsible for implementing CDP (Cultural Development Programme) on your sites

Qualifications

• Successful experience as a Project Manager with demonstrable acumen to deliver a good profit margin


• Previous experience on a water/utilities project worth £15 million +


• Previous experience delivering horizontal drilling and pipe jacking operations is an advantage
