Job description

Our client, a fit-out and main contracting construction company based in the North East, is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and deliver high-quality projects across the region.

This is an excellent opportunity for a driven Project Manager with a strong background in education sector builds and refurbishments (schools, colleges, academies) and wider commercial construction such as leisure centres and offices.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all phases of construction projects from inception through to completion.
  • Oversee site operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Coordinate and motivate site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to achieve project goals.
  • Maintain clear communication with clients, consultants, and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor progress, resolve technical or logistical issues, and ensure compliance with design specifications and building regulations.
  • Implement and uphold strict Health & Safety standards in line with SMSTS guidelines.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation including programmes, site diaries, and progress reports.
Requirements
  • Proven experience managing fit‑out or main contracting projects, ideally within the education sector (schools experience essential).
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational abilities and a proactive approach to problem‑solving.
  • SMSTS, First Aid, and CSCS qualifications required.
  • Degree or technical qualification in Construction Management or a related field (desirable).
  • Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel within the region.
