Job summary

Justice Digital, Data and Science is recruiting three Project Managers to join the Project Delivery team on a permanent basis. The role involves leading planning, governance and delivery of projects, managing budgets, risks and dependencies, and facilitating collaboration with stakeholders across Government.

The position offers hybrid working with a national footprint, the London salary band for London and national for national, and a clear path to contribute to digital transformation within the

We’re recruiting for 3 Project Managers here at Justice Digital, Data and Science to be part of our warm and collaborative Project Delivery team.

Project Managers ensure teams have the right environment to deliver the vision, products and services, iteratively, and ensure the team collaborates, communicates and focuses on what is most important.

They work at the heart of teams to provide direction within a project, service or programme. They are accountable for building, motivating, supporting and facilitating teams as well as removing obstacles and blockers that get in their way.

They challenge approaches inside and outside of the team they are working with and facilitate a focus on the outcome. They are responsible for working proactively, effectively and collaboratively with external supplier organisations.

Project Managers proactively develop and manage sometimes complex plans and risks, they build and proactively manage significant project budgets, identify and manage project dependencies and priorities, and get the best value against constraints. They assess and evaluate the business readiness for change managing all aspects of the governance of projects ensuring continued integrity and coherence is maintained.

Our team is part of a wider and growing network of project professionals across Government, working together to build Project Management capability critical to government’s modernisation and reform plans.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the planning, governance and delivery of projects and programmes, ensuring objectives, scope, risks, dependencies and outcomes are effectively managed throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Apply the most appropriate delivery methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall and Lean approaches, adapting ways of working to meet organisational and project needs while driving continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders, providing clear communication, managing expectations and facilitating informed decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain delivery plans, prioritising activities based on business value, managing team capacity, resolving blockers and ensuring delivery momentum is sustained.
  • Create and foster high-performing, collaborative teams by promoting effective teamwork, addressing team challenges and supporting an environment that enables successful delivery.
  • Establish and manage appropriate governance, assurance and reporting mechanisms, including the development and delivery of business cases and benefits realisation plans.
  • Manage project budgets, financial performance and supplier relationships, ensuring value for money, effective commercial oversight and timely escalation of financial or contractual issues.
  • Ensure projects and services progress through the appropriate lifecycle stages, meeting required standards, controls and organisational objectives from initiation through to implementation and transition.

Person Specification

Essential

  • You’ll take ownership of problems and show initiative in aligning the necessary resources to bring about a successful outcome for the business demonstrate a passion for digital and technology and understand how it can be used to enable new ways of working, increase efficiencies and productivity and reduce costs.
  • You’ll visualise, articulate and solve problems and make disciplined decisions based on available information, by applying logical thinking, information analysis and the use of comprehensive tools and techniques, formulating day-to-day and long-term strategic plans.
  • You’ll have an overall perspective on business issues, events, activities and an understanding of their wider implications, including determining patterns, standards, policies, roadmaps and vision statements.
  • You’ll understand user needs, based upon evidence. You’ll engage in meaningful interactions and relationships to translate user stories and propose design approaches or services to meet these needs.
  • You’ll have strong planning and reporting skills with experience on Microsoft Project and preparing reporting papers for presentation.
  • You’ll have a good understanding of working in diverse business/operational environments, and be able to demonstrate examples of activities, structures, and team, organisation or departments for which services are provided.
  • Experience working in digital, waterfall and hybrid methodologies, you will have the ability to recognise and influence the correct methodologies for project delivery.
  • Experience of working to relevant Project Management certification or equivalent levels and experience of using recognised methodologies and tools to develop and deliver projects and maintaining controls.

Salary Information**

Base salary for this role is from £49,325 - £53,081 (London) or £42,914 - £46,182 (National).

  • New entrants to the Civil Service joining the MoJ are expected to start at the minimum of the pay band.
  • Existing Civil Servants moving on a level transfer will retain their current base salary or move to the minimum of the pay band for the role, whichever is higher.
  • Existing Civil Servants who are promoted will either move to the bottom of the new grade’s pay band or receive a 10% uplift, whichever provides the greater increase.
