Job Description Project Manager

Position Description

At CGI, we help public sector organisations modernise critical technology with confidence, creating resilient services that deliver lasting value for the communities they support. As an IT Project Manager within our Application Upgrade Programme for our client, you'll take ownership of application and infrastructure upgrades from planning through to successful delivery. You'll coordinate technical teams and suppliers, manage commercial performance and give clients clear insight into progress, risks and outcomes. With the autonomy to drive delivery and find practical solutions to complex challenges, you'll work alongside experienced architecture, infrastructure and delivery specialists who share their expertise and support your success. This is an opportunity to make a visible impact within a significant technology estate while developing your project leadership expertise at CGI.

CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK 'Best Employer' by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you'll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We'll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go.

This is a hybrid position, but you will be expected to work at CGI's Office and/or our client's offices in Glasgow.

Your future duties and responsibilities

In this role, you will take ownership of delivering application and infrastructure upgrades through the complete project lifecycle, managing an ongoing pipeline of demand for our client. You'll coordinate plans, milestones and technical dependencies while providing the client with clear visibility of delivery status, financial performance, risks and issues.

You'll bring together Technical Architects, Desktop and Infrastructure teams, suppliers and client stakeholders to keep delivery moving and resolve challenges effectively. You'll have scope to find practical ways to improve delivery while being supported by experienced CGI colleagues. Alongside project governance, you'll manage forecasting, invoicing and supplier activity to ensure upgrades are delivered with appropriate commercial and operational control.

  • Lead & Deliver: Manage application and infrastructure upgrades through the delivery lifecycle, maintaining momentum against agreed milestones.
  • Plan & Track: Maintain the Application Upgrade Tracker, delivery forecasts and planned completion dates across the upgrade pipeline.
  • Report & Influence: Produce weekly project reporting and present progress, delivery status, risks and issues to the client.
  • Forecast & Manage: Forecast project costs and revenue and maintain effective financial control.
  • Invoice & Control: Manage monthly Time & Materials invoicing against the agreed client rate card.
  • Engage & Coordinate: Lead supplier engagement and manage Purchase Orders for consultancy support where required.
  • Lead & Collaborate: Coordinate Technical Architects, Desktop Teams, Infrastructure Teams and other specialists throughout delivery.
  • Own & Resolve: Maintain risks and issues within RiskIT, ensuring they are clearly documented, actively managed and appropriately escalated.
  • Improve & Support: Identify practical opportunities to strengthen delivery while collaborating with colleagues to achieve successful client outcomes.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

You'll bring proven IT project management experience, ideally delivering application upgrades, infrastructure change or related technology projects within a complex environment. You should be confident coordinating technical teams and suppliers, managing project finances and governance, and communicating progress clearly to client stakeholders.

  • Proven IT Project Management experience, delivering technology projects through the full delivery lifecycle.
  • Experience managing application upgrades, infrastructure upgrades or technology transformation projects.
  • Strong planning and delivery tracking capability, including management of milestones, forecasts and dependencies.
  • Proven risk and issue management skills, with the ability to identify, track, mitigate and upscale delivery challenges.
  • Strong financial management experience, including project forecasting, costs, revenue and T&M invoicing.
  • Experience managing third-party suppliers, including commercial coordination and Purchase Orders.
  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary technical teams, including architecture and infrastructure specialists.
  • Strong client-facing communication and presentation skills, with confidence reporting delivery status to stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of project governance, with a disciplined approach to reporting, documentation and delivery controls.
  • Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills, with the ability to take ownership while drawing on expertise across technical and delivery teams.
