Job summary

Careys in Gartree is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of a major Heavy Civils project, overseeing planning, engineering coordination, construction, commissioning and handover.

You will manage health, safety, quality, environmental compliance and stakeholder relations, drive programme and commercial performance, and lead multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on time and within budget.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading major civils or infrastructure projects.
  • Black CSCS Card, SMSTS, IOSH Managing Safely.
  • Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) certificate.
  • Significant experience delivering complex civils projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project-wide quality, safety, and environmental strategy and drive continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical authority and oversee temporary and permanent works.
  • Oversee design governance and BIM compliance with client requirements.
  • Coordinate strategic logistics for multi-site access and supply chain interfaces.
  • Direct procurement and materials strategies to maintain programme and quality.
  • Own the master programme and report progress and risk against milestones.
  • Shape commercial strategy, contribute to variations, claims, and cost forecasting.
  • Lead and inspire the project team with clear roles and accountability.

Description

We’re seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of a major Heavy Civils project. This is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all aspects of project execution, from planning and engineering coordination through to construction, commissioning, and handover.

As Project Manager, you will take ownership of project delivery, ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, quality, environmental compliance, and operational excellence are achieved. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, manage key stakeholder relationships, drive programme and commercial performance, and provide strategic direction across all phases of the project.

Working within a complex and challenging heavy civils environment, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, while fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across the project team.

What you will be doing:
  • Lead project-wide quality, safety, and environmental strategy, ensuring high standards and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical authority, resolving complex engineering issues and overseeing temporary and permanent works.
  • Manage design governance, ensuring timely information flow, buildability, and compliance with BIM and client requirements.
  • Oversee strategic logistics planning, coordinating multi-site access, deliveries, and supply chain interfaces.
  • Direct procurement and materials strategies, working closely with key suppliers to maintain programme and quality.
  • Own the master programme, lead recovery planning, and report progress and risk against key milestones.
  • Shape and support the commercial strategy, contributing to variations, claims, cost forecasting, and risk mitigation.
  • Lead and inspire the project team, ensuring clarity of roles, accountability, and performance — including Section 106/social value commitments (apprenticeships, work placements & local employment).
  • Build strong client and stakeholder relationships, chairing structured meetings and ensuring successful delivery outcomes.
  • Drive a proactive, collaborative, and safety‑first culture, influencing behaviours across the entire project.

  • MICE / AMICE / IEng

  • MSc in Civil Engineering or Construction PM
