Project Manager - Groundworks / Civil Engineering / RC Frame

Location: Brentwood, Essex (projects primarily across London and the South East)

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

About the Company

Our client is a well-established specialist contractor within the Enabling, Groundworks, Civil Engineering, and RC Frame sectors. Operating from their head office in Essex, they deliver high-quality construction and infrastructure projects ranging in value from £500k to £10 million.

The business prides itself on employing experienced professionals who combine technical expertise with hands‑on delivery, ensuring tailored, reliable, and efficient solutions for clients. With a strong project pipeline and continued growth, they are now seeking an experienced Project Manager to join their expanding operations team.

About the Role

As Project Manager, you'll be responsible for leading and overseeing multiple projects from tender through to completion, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Programme Planning: Develop detailed project programmes to ensure smooth delivery and avoid delays.
  • Procurement & Resources: Oversee procurement of materials and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with company procedures and best value.
  • Commercial Oversight: Ensure site teams adhere to commercial policies and contractual obligations.
  • Project Meetings: Attend and lead tender, handover, pre-start, and progress meetings as required.
  • Reporting: Provide regular updates to senior management on progress, resourcing, and forecasting.
  • Temporary Works Coordination: Act as Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) in line with BS 5975:2019 and internal procedures.
  • Leadership: Support and guide site teams, fostering a culture of accountability and high performance.
Health, Safety & Environmental
  • Lead by example in promoting the highest standards of HSE compliance and best practice.
  • Allocate and monitor HSE responsibilities across the site team.
  • Investigate incidents and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure adequate site welfare, statutory checks, and documentation are maintained.
  • Undertake senior management site inspections and report to the HSQE function as required.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of CDM 2015 and other relevant legislation.
  • Prepare project‑specific RAMS, rescue plans, and waste or traffic management plans as needed.
Quality Assurance
  • Ensure all ITPs, QA files, and O&M manuals are produced, maintained, and issued on time.
  • Promote and uphold best practice in construction quality management.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement across all project stages.
Technical & Design Management
  • Prepare and manage RFIs in line with programme requirements.
  • Demonstrate solid technical understanding of drainage, rebar, and RC frame construction practices.
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering without compromising on quality or safety.
  • Review design specifications and coordinate with designers and subcontractors as required.
Client Relations
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
  • Represent the company with professionalism and integrity on all projects.
  • Support the senior management team in delivering client satisfaction and repeat business.
About You
  • Proven experience managing groundworks, civil engineering, or RC frame projects (typically £500k-£10m).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Thorough understanding of temporary works and HSE best practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Relevant qualifications in construction management, civil engineering, or similar discipline preferred.
  • CSCS, SMSTS, and Temporary Works Coordinator certifications are advantageous.
