How The Role Will Make An Impact

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Officer will be responsible for overseeing and managing EHS programs, policies and procedures for Quanex Access Solutions, Wolverhampton. A passionate, energetic and engaging leader in EHS, that promotes safety as a core value and partners with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The role will be responsible for promoting and driving continuous EHS improvements that will engage staff, promote a positive safety culture and will result in the reduction of injuries and assure regulatory compliance. Whilst the role is based at Wolverhampton, it will require additional travel to support other Quanex UK operations and occasional overseas travel as required to fulfil the role.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Provide the necessary support, advice and management to deliver exceptional EHS standards.
  • Establish annual safety objectives in line with business strategy to drive key safety metrics and KPI's to support the company's safety targets and report these metrics monthly.
  • Serve as the technical resource for incident investigation and causal factor/root cause analysis; lead investigations and work with plant leadership to implement an action plan following root cause analysis.
  • Implement systems, programmes and standards that will help enhance the existing positive safety culture.
  • Assist in the development (and testing) of Business Continuity and Crisis Management Plans.
  • Develop/update EHS policies and procedures whilst supporting cross‑functional teams with their implementation.
  • Implement a behavioural safety programme as designed and required within Quanex.
  • Proactively identify EHS hazards and risks then develop plans to eliminate, minimise and control risks.
  • Help maintain, support and implement ISO Standards where applicable.
  • Share best practices and implement them within the Quanex Group.
  • Facilitate and support the implementation of health and safety software systems.
  • Educate, train and provide mentoring to staff in all areas of EHS.
  • Develop and maintain training materials to help manage key risks within the business.
  • Monitor regulatory changes; recommend adjustments to programs/procedures accordingly.
  • Ensure legal (and best practice) compliance with any relevant EHS permits and standards.
  • Lead or participate in EHS audits (internally and externally) as required.
  • Ensure timely closure of audit actions relating to Quanex Access Solutions.
Key Skills
  • Essential: EHS qualifications e.g. NEBOSH Certificate, IEMA Foundation.
  • Proven experience in a similar Health & Safety, Environmental or a combined role.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred, but not essential.
  • Must demonstrate passion, energy and an engaging style to communicate effectively in EHS matters.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships, multitask and prioritise.
  • Excellent MS Office Suite skills, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including delivery of key presentations.
  • Able to work independently and also as a strong team player.
  • Experience with ISO management systems and regulatory compliance audits.
  • Experience in environmental compliance.
