Job description

The SIA is the organisation responsible for the regulation of private security. It is an independent, arm's-length body (ALB) of the Home Office, reporting to the Home Secretary, under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. The SIA's purpose is protecting the public through effective regulation of the private security industry and working with partners to raise standards across the sector. Its regulatory remit covers the whole of the United Kingdom.

The SIA has two main duties: the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking designated activities within the private security industry and the management of a voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme, which measures private security suppliers against independently assessed criteria.

SIA licensing covers security operatives who are in guarding, door supervision, close protection, cash and valuables in transit, and public space surveillance using CCTV, vehicle immobilisation (in Northern Ireland) and key holding. Licensing ensures that private security operatives are fit and proper persons who are properly trained and qualified to do their job.

Ready to shape the future of regulation and make a real difference to public safety? We’re looking for 3 forward‑thinking Project Managers to join our growing regulatory organisation as we expand into an exciting new area of oversight. This is your chance to be part of a team that protects the public, drives industry standards, and delivers projects that have genuine national impact.

In this role, you won’t just be managing projects – you’ll be helping to build a brand‑new regulatory function from the ground up. You’ll lead innovative technical and business initiatives, work with expert stakeholders, and turn ideas into real operational solutions that will influence how an entire sector operates.

From designing processes and digital capabilities to supporting complex regulatory change, you’ll be at the centre of high‑profile, transformative work. Every project you deliver will help strengthen public trust and shape a safer future.

If you’re a motivated Project Manager who thrives in fast‑paced environments, enjoys solving complex problems, and wants your work to matter, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

Join us and help build something that protects the public for years to come. Due to business requirements, this role is only available full‑time.

As part of the application process, you will be asked to complete a CV and personal statement. Further details around what this will entail are listed on the application form.

Please use your personal statement (in no more than 500 words) to outline why you believe you would be an ideal candidate for this role. Please highlight your relevant skills, experience, and achievements that align with the essential job requirements.

To help us assess your suitability for the role, please complete the CV incorporated into the application form by providing as much information as possible about your previous work experience and achievements.

In the event of receiving a large number of applicants, applications will be sifted on personal statement only. Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift or progressed straight to assessment/interview.

Interview details will be provided to successful candidates prior to their interview taking place. Sift and interview dates:

  • Sift will take place from 13th January 2026
  • First‑stage telephone interviews will be held on 26th January 2026
  • Second‑stage MS Teams interviews will be held on 5th February 2026
You will be required to prepare a presentation.
Further Information

As the SIA is an NDPB staffed by public servants, civil servants taking up a position with the SIA cannot transfer to the SIA via a loan. For fixed‑term appointments civil servants must join via a secondment. Where a civil servant is joining the SIA via a permanent position they will need to resign from their current civil service position. The SIA recognises service within other Government and Non‑Ministerial Departments and Agencies as counting towards ‘continuous service’ for purposes of pension etc.

A reserve list of successful candidates will be kept for a maximum of 12 months. Should another role become available within that period you may be offered this position. New entrants are expected to join on the minimum of the pay band.
