Project Manager – Energy Storage (Edinburgh)

About the Company

Join a fast-growing renewable energy asset management business with over 1GW of installed energy storage capacity and a rapidly expanding pipeline. The company is at the forefront of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), delivering high-performance solutions across the UK.

The Role

They are seeking a highly experienced and passionate Project Manager to join their London-based team. You will oversee the planning conditions, execution and successful delivery of large-scale battery energy storage projects acting as the PM for the Clients EPC function.

This role will blend technical knowledge of energy systems with project management skills, focusing on meeting stakeholder needs, maintaining safety standards and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparing, monitoring, and controlling the project budget for the client ensuring financial resources are used efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintaining the clients project timeline through contractors and NOs, managing milestones, deadlines and coordinating resource allocation.
  • Leading and managing multidisciplinary contracting project teams, including engineers, contractors, suppliers, consultants and utility companies.
  • Regular communication with the Principal Contractor to manage them on project progress and resolve issues
  • Liaising with relevant regulatory bodies (TO/DNO/NESO) and ensuring compliance.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to the team.
  • Integration: Ensuring that the battery storage system integrates seamlessly with the wider infrastructure including grid connections and related technologies.
  • Managing the testing phase to ensure the battery storage system works as intended, performing acceptance tests and overseeing the commissioning process.
  • Managing unforeseen challenges and solving problems that may arise during the construction phase.
  • Supporting contract management with suppliers, contractors and other vendors, ensuring compliance with agreed terms.
  • Ensuring the project complies with UK energy storage regulations, planning regulations, environmental standards and other relevant local policies.
  • Ensuring the project is handed over to the operational team in a complete and functional state.
Requirements
  • PMP (Project Management Professional), Prince2 or equivalent certifications.
  • Experience with the renewable energy industry, in specific battery energy storage systems (BESS), grid integration and energy management systems.
  • Strong background in construction project management, preferably in energy infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of UK planning laws, construction standards, environmental regulations and health & safety requirements.
  • The works will require 3 days on site minimum in Edinburgh and ideally 1 day in the office every 2 weeks.
  • NESO compliance understanding would ideally be required.
