Job summary

SSE is seeking a Project Manager to join our Network Delivery team, supporting Out of Area Projects across the UK. You will lead electrical connection projects, coordinate contractors, manage budgets, and ensure safe delivery to regulatory standards.

Base locations include Melksham, Swindon, Thatcham, Cardiff or Reading, with Flexible First options. Travel across sites and a valid UK driving licence required; company car or allowance may apply.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in electrical project delivery within utilities or energy sector.
  • HNC or higher in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of health & safety practices (SMSTS).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management at all levels.
  • Working knowledge of distribution networks up to 11kV and regulatory codes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of multiple electrical connection projects safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Drive a strong safety-first culture, ensuring all contractors and direct labour work to SSE's Safety Family standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders from enquiry through to completion.
  • Manage project finances, track costs, raise invoices, and oversee payments.
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement across project delivery and performance.

Salary: £50,964 - £60,899 + car allowance (**see below) and a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to join our team!

In this role, you'll support the Regional Team Manager and Out of Area Delivery Manager in delivering SSE Network's Out of Area Projects.

You'll manage and coordinate external contractors, overseeing all aspects of connections to the SEPD and SHEPD Networks, across all voltages, including unmetered connections. You'll ensure every project is delivered safely, efficiently, and to regulatory standards, driving performance, maximising value, and ensuring our networks are fit for purpose.

With a focus on innovation and continuous improvement, you'll help shape the future of our network delivery.

We're looking for a proactive, hands-on Project Manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys turning plans into action.

You will:

You have:
  • Proven experience in electrical project delivery within the utilities or energy sector.
  • HNC (or higher) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Strong knowledge of health & safety practices (e.g., SMSTS qualification).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills at all levels.
  • Working knowledge of distribution networks up to 11kV, regulatory standards, and industry codes of practice.

** This role involves travel across various locations to support business needs and a full UK driving licence is required for this position. To enable you to fulfil these responsibilities, as a role requirement, the company will provide access to a vehicle for work-related travel.

The requirement will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and if the company car policy criteria are met, there will be an opportunity to join the company car scheme. Provision of a company car or cash allowance does not form part of the contractual terms and conditions of employment for this role.
