Your Job

As Project Manager, you will lead the successful technical and commercial execution of projects from initiation through completion, ensuring they meet scope, schedule, budget, and quality requirements. This role requires close collaboration with in-house teams, including engineering, to foster mutual benefit across functions. The ideal candidate has experience in project management, planning, design coordination, and strong commercial and financial acumen.

The role will be based in Stoke (UK) with "onsite first hybrid working schedule".

What You Will Do

Leadership : Team Development & Working Through Others

  • Lead the project as the Single Point of Contact for clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Define, communicate, and regularly update clear Roles, Responsibilities, and Expectations (RREs) to ensure accountability.
  • Clarify decision rights to enable timely, effective decisions (e.g., change approvals, technical disputes).
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive culture that values inputs at all levels.
  • Connect team efforts to broader business goals, inspiring shared ownership.
  • Support team members in focusing on their strengths and passions, coaching for growth and skill development.
  • Encourage regular, constructive feedback to improve performance and celebrate successes.
  • Hold yourself and the team accountable to company values and adapt roles as project needs evolve.

Client & Supplier Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and suppliers, ensuring alignment with objectives and fostering mutual benefit in all interactions.
  • Seek win-win outcomes when negotiating contracts, resolving conflicts, or addressing challenges with stakeholders.
  • Maintain agreed project cash flow by ensuring invoices are issued correctly and on time, and milestone payments are achieved as per the plan.
  • Negotiate and evaluate contracts, milestones, and technical documentation to ensure alignment with business objectives.

Project Execution

  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans using MS Project, ensuring deliverables are met on time, within budget, and with quality standards.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement plans to control and mitigate technical and commercial risks.
  • Prepare and present progress reports to internal and external stakeholders, highlighting key milestones, risks, and issues.
  • Participate in project meetings (virtual or in-person), including KOM, progress meetings, reviews, and close-out meetings, as required.
  • Apply economic thinking to analyse trade-offs, optimize resource utilization, and maximize value creation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Validate project deliverables against the defined scope of work and ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Apply technical and commercial knowledge to solve problems and optimize project outcomes.

Resource Management

  • Identify, plan, and coordinate resources needed to achieve project deliverables.
  • Oversee preparation of documentation, including RFQs, PO specifications, and material requisitions for bought-out packages and equipment.
  • Monitor and expedite suppliers and their deliverables, ensuring compliance with schedules, codes, and specifications.
  • Perform vendor technical evaluations, review deliverables, and ensure equipment meets contract codes, standards, and project specifications.

Knowledge Sharing & Continuous Improvement

  • Facilitate regular after-action reviews to capture lessons learned and embed improvements into future projects.
  • Promote a culture of open knowledge sharing and collaboration within the team.
  • Encourage constructive challenge and new ideas to drive innovation and better solutions.
  • Encourage team members to share both successes and failures as learning opportunities to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Leverage lessons learned not only within the team but also share with other teams and functions to maximize organizational learning.
  • Actively support the implementation of best practices across projects to drive innovation and efficiency.
  • Ensure all documentation, specifications, and certifications meet quality standards and reflect lessons learned from past projects.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience as a Project Manager.
  • A minimum qualification of HNC (or equivalent) in mechanical or process engineering.
  • Experience delivering engineered systems / packages / modular skids with pressure vessels, piping, valves, and instrumentation.
  • Experience working on engineering projects in the oil & gas, chemicals, or petrochemicals industries.
  • Proven ability to deliver projects on time, within budget, and with stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&ID, PFD, and fabrication details.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Qualified PRINCE2 Practitioner, APM PMQ, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of structural, pressure vessel, or pipework design and fabrication.
  • Basic understanding of electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Knowledge of welding techniques and related documentation.
  • EPC Experience
  • Previous management or leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration, accountability, and innovation within teams.
  • Skills & Attributes : Strong communicator, well organized, self-motivator with the ability to work independently.
