Job description

As a Project Management Degree Apprentice at Babcock, you'll be part of something bigger from day one. While working towards a BSc in Project Management, you'll contribute to projects that are essential to national security. You'll gain real-world experience, learn from industry experts, and play a key role in delivering projects that help create a safer, more secure world.

About The Programme

Getting things to happen how they should, when they should, safely and within budget is both a science and an art. On this 4-year programme, you'll learn exactly how it's done.

As a Project Management Degree Apprentice, you'll work on real projects, ensuring we meet time, cost, and quality requirements. From cutting-edge design and manufacturing to in-service support and innovative capability enhancement, you'll be responsible for delivering some of our most business‑critical projects from start to finish.

You'll develop both the technical expertise and essential soft skills needed to excel in project management. This includes honing your presentation, communication, problem‑solving, and organisational skills, as well as advanced planning techniques. Throughout the programme, you'll put these skills into practice by leading multi‑skilled teams, managing stakeholder expectations, assessing risks, and navigating the complexities of delivering large‑scale projects.

Your education/training

You'll work towards a BSc in Project Management through a structured degree apprenticeship in partnership with University of Plymouth.

Your academic learning will be delivered online via virtual day release, where you'll take part in interactive lectures, seminars, and workshops designed to build your theoretical understanding of project management principles and practices.

The remainder of your time will be spent onsite at Babcock, where you'll apply your learning in a real‑world setting. You'll develop practical skills, gain valuable industry experience, and deepen your understanding of your role by contributing to live projects and working alongside experienced professionals.

Future prospects

By the end of your apprenticeship, you'll be ready to take the role of an Assistant Project Manager within Babcock.

Our programme is designed to equip you with the skills and experience needed to excel in project management. With a strong emphasis on professional development, you'll have access to numerous progression opportunities both within the Project Management function and across the wider business. If you are passionate and driven, your potential for growth is limitless.

What you'll need
  • You'll need Level 2 English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above are also acceptable), plus one of the following:
    • 3 A Levels at Grade C or above, preferably in subjects such as Maths, Science or IT
    • A T Level Pass (with Grade C or above in the core component)
    • A BTEC Extended Diploma at Grade MMM (Merit, Merit, Merit)
    • An equivalent Level 3 qualification, such as an NVQ Level 3 or Access to Higher Education Diploma
  • Many of our programmes are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which programmes you are eligible for. For this programme, you must be able to achieve and maintain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) security clearance. For further details, visit GOV.UK and search 'United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels'.
  • Under applicable national security legislation, this post may only be occupied by a sole UK national. This legal requirement is independent of our recruitment policies, and all eligible applicants will be assessed fairly and without discrimination.
