Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley is seeking a Project Leader in Sunderland to manage design and construction activities for water and wastewater projects. The role blends project management with design engineering, coordinating civil, mechanical, electrical and process teams to deliver from outline through detailed design to handover.

You will work within a multi-disciplinary team, supporting development toward professional chartership and contributing to a safe, efficient project delivery culture.

Qualifications

  • Accredited Degree in Engineering
  • Civil, Mechanical, Process and Electrical disciplines
  • Incorporated Member of Engineering Institution
  • Outline and detailed design experience of water or wastewater projects
  • Knowledge of the Designer or Principal Designer duties under CDM 2015

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a project triangle with a Site Manager and Quantity Surveyor to ensure technical, constructability and commercial aspects are considered.
  • Lead the design of treatment or infrastructure projects from outline to detailed design, through construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Coordinate the project team including civil, electrical, mechanical and process designers, BIM modelers and technical specialists to deliver on programme, budget and quality.
  • Undertake design in own discipline and mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Build positive relationships with the client’s project, operational and technical assurance teams and promote a one-team approach.

We joined a new partnership in Northumbrian Water’s new Living Water Enterprise, an innovative vehicle developed to deliver large scale construction programmes in AMP8 and beyond, supporting a £3.6bn workload. What does a Project Leader do day to day?
  • Working as part of a “project triangle” alongside a Site Manager and Quantity Surveyor to ensure that technical, constructability and commercial aspects of project delivery are considered throughout.
  • Leading the design of treatment or infrastructure projects from the initial outline to detailed design, through construction, commissioning, and handover
  • Coordinating the project team including civil, electrical, mechanical and process designers, BIM modelers and technical specialists and ensure designs are completed on programme, within budget, and to the quality defined by each framework and industry specifications
  • Undertake design in own discipline and mentor less experienced colleagues where appropriate
  • Building positive relationships with the clients’ project, operational and technical assurance teams and promote a "one-team" approach
